Posting Summary Rutgers University-Newark, an urban public research university and anchor institution, located in Newark, New Jersey, a city of promise, is seeking an Assistant Dean of Academic & Registration Services. Reporting to Associate Dean for Academic Affairs on the Newark campus of the Law School, this position is located on two campuses—Newark and Camden, Rutgers Law School is the largest public law school in the region. The Assistant Dean of Academic & Registration Services will be responsible for course registration, exam administration, academic advising, academic integrity, and maintenance of academic records for the Newark and Camden campuses. The Assistant Dean will have at least one direct report in the Law School Registrar’s office to assist with these matters.

This position is responsible for and not limited to the following: Course scheduling: creating an academic calendar; entering course schedules in the Course Scheduling System (CSS); creating new course numbers; creating and updating a master course list in coordination with the Associate Deans for Academic Affairs; communicating with the Registrar’s office on both campuses about opening and closing registration; providing information to students in both locations about registration; and assisting students with registration. Exam administration: creating exam schedules; administration of the anonymous grading system so that faculty do not know the identity of students when grading; creating a Dean on Duty schedule; coordinating with faculty, administrators, and staff to upload exams; providing information to students about how to download and upload exams; and working with the Deans of Students in both locations to provide student accommodations when appropriate. Academic Advising: advising students about courses of study and fulfilling academic and other graduation requirements, in addition to advising about the mechanics of course registration and the add/drop process. Academic Recording: creating and maintaining academic records. Reviewing and approving grades entered by faculty to comply with the grading curve of the law school; entering grades into REGIS; ensuring the entry of writing and skills credits; overseeing the degree audit process; reviewing and analyzing students’ GPAs to determine Dean’s list; reviewing and computing Latin Honors, Order of the Coif, and other awards; and reviewing and analyzing student GPAs to determine which students require academic supervision or fall within the jurisdiction of the Scholastic Standing Committee (SSC). Administrative Duties: serving as secretary to the SSC to provide information and context. As a student facing a position that works with additional senior staff to operative effectively, it is of paramount importance that the Assistant Dean is very responsive to communications from students, staff and faculty, and is a collaborative team-player.


Position Status Full Time Hours Per Week Daily Work Shift Work Arrangement Consistent with the current application of Rutgers Policy 60.3.22, this position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement. The flexible work arrangements outlined in Rutgers Policy 60.3.22 are part of a pilot program that is effective September 1, 2022 through August 31, 2024. Therefore, there is no guarantee that this flexible work arrangement will continue beyond that date.
