Responsible for planning, coordinating, and supervising laboratory functions including testing, staffing, training, scheduling, maintaining supplies.  Maintains working relationship with hospital administration, other laboratories, nursing services, and physicians.  Ensures that services are of the best quality, are cost-contained, and are carried out in an expeditious manner.  Responsible for assuring section meets all regulatory requirements (CAP, AABB, JCAHO, CLIA, etc.).  Assumes the responsibilites of the Laboratory Director in his/her absence.  Serves as a resource for technical coordinators.  Performs laboratory testing as needed or required.  Assists with evaluation of employees using laboratory and hospital guidelines and policies to include competency assessment.  Encourages professional growth and development of staff.  Coordinates on-site training of Medical Technologist or Medical Laboratory Technician students.
