Assistant Director Center for Career and Professional Development

Seeking a highly qualified and motivated individual to join our team as Assistant Director. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in career services, with a focus on delivering high-quality career coaching to students and alumni. Provide comprehensive career coaching to students and alumni in the Health & Medicine and Science, Engineering & Tech Career Exploration Communities (CECs) and the pre-health and pre-engineering programs. Work closely with the CEC manager to support career programming for students.

Essential Job Functions:

Provide comprehensive career coaching to undergraduate students in the Health & Medicine and Science, Engineering & Tech CECs. Assist students and alumni in exploring possible careers and career decision-making Provide direct support for internship, job, and graduate/professional school searches and applications, including resume development, networking, and mock interviewing. Serve as an advisor for all pre-health programs (pre-dentistry, pre-med, pre-nursing, pre-optometry, pre-pharmacy, pre-PT, pre-PA, and pre-vet) and pre-engineering, working alongside pre-professional faculty advisors to guide students through the process of locating and applying to graduate/professional schools. Build relationships with and serve as a liaison to designated faculty, developing strategies for communication and collaborative programming for students. Document coaching sessions in Handshake. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of and educate students, faculty and staff on industry trends, qualities/skills employers seek in candidates, and the hiring process. Work closely with the CEC manager to provide direct support to students and alumni. Connect students with alumni Career Advocates for mentorship, career advice, and internship/job/graduate school assistance. Lead in-class presentations on career readiness topics as needed. Attend all Health & Medicine and Science, Engineering & Tech CEC events. Represent the CCPD and/or Centre College at events for prospective students, parents, alumni, and employers. Support and attend CCPD events as required. Ability to travel and work occasional evenings and weekends as needed.

Marginal Job Functions:

Serve on college-wide committees as assigned. Contribute to the overall success of the department by performing all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in career development, counseling, psychology, biology, public health, environmental science, or related field required; Master’s degree strongly preferred. Minimum of two years’ experience in career services, counseling, student success, higher education, or a related industry.

Knowledge and Skills

Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Strong empathy and communication skills. Ability to prioritize and handle multiple assignments; strong organizational skills. Demonstrates an appreciation of and commitment to further an inclusive culture for those of diverse backgrounds such as ability, age, class, ethnicity, faith, background, gender expression, gender identity, geographic region, national origin, neurodiversity, race, and sexual orientation that comprise individual and group expressions of identity. Familiarity with career management platforms (e.g. Handshake), Windows office environment, and social media platforms.

Physical Requirements

Limited pushing, pulling, and lifting. Lifting would not exceed 20 lbs. Mobility on campus is necessary.
