The Department of Digital + Studio Arts (D+SA) at Hamline University invites applicants for an Assistant Professor (Tenure-Track) position with a specialization in Sculpture with an anticipated start date of August 2024. D+SA seeks an artist-educator with an interest in bridging contemporary arts practices, digital fabrication, and traditional modes of making. Candidates should have proficiency in woodworking, steel fabrication, mold making (standard investment and sand casting), and metal casting (bronze and aluminum); experience in other media (especially digital fabrication) is a plus. D+SA particularly welcomes candidates with an interest in breaking boundaries between traditional studio arts and new media, along with collaborating with faculty across disciplines. Hamline tenure-track faculty typically teach six courses per academic year, with a one-course release in the first year and a semester teaching release pending successful third-year review. Annually, this position will be evaluated for partial teaching release in consideration for studio tech and maintenance expectations, depending on availability of staff support for such needs that academic year. The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to take on the following areas of responsibility: + Teaching foundations courses and studio courses at all levels of sculpture (beginning to advanced) with strong adherence to safety standards and practices. + Managing and maintaining tools and equipment of a wood shop, metal shop, and foundry. + Advising and mentoring undergraduate students reflecting the diversity of the Hamline student body. + Training and supervising student studio monitors, offering continuing hands-on training and professional development opportunities, and building a positive studio/shop culture; + Fostering connections to the broader arts and maker communities. + Developing new courses in areas of individual interest and in collaboration within and beyond the D+SA department, including topical First-Year Seminars. + Establishing a creative research agenda with material support from the department and university. D+SA is committed to the intersection of arts and technologies, values collaboration and high impact educational experiences for our students, and fosters a diverse and inclusive learning environment. We offer well-equipped studio spaces, with the ability to invest resources to reflect the expertise, research agenda, and pedagogical goals of new faculty. Hamline University is located in the heart of the culturally vibrant Minneapolis-Saint Paul metropolitan area.
