Position Overview

Plan and procure at lowest cost quality materials, components and equipment for delivery as demand requires.  Optimize inventory levels to balance JIT practices, minimal excess inventory and prevent customer backorders.

Plan material requirements based on usage history, forecasts and project demand schedules

Update and maintain item master information in Material Planning System for assigned purchased items

Purchase inventory stocking levels based on Min/Max settings, Forecasted quantities, or ERP system

Source and Purchase MRO items as needed

Maintain PO contract integrity and accuracy with suppliers and within company financial database

For responsible inventory items, reduce and maintain inventory levels within established inventory goals and still meet demand requirements

Negotiate with and manage suppliers to meet GNR business goals and objectives

Perform periodic supplier performance evaluations and conduct supplier feedback meetings to review and follow up on supplier business objectives

Bid out new items and periodically bid out existing items and commodities to insure materials are acquired at best cost

Coordinate with Quality Department and Mfg Engineering to negotiate with suppliers for resolving vendor quality problems in a timely manner

Continually research responsible commodities for market changes and business opportunities, and to be a commodity expert for internal customers

Advise management of changes in commodity market conditions and supplier base activity which could adversely affect pricing and/or delivery

Negotiate and manage outsourced contract assembly suppliers and outsourced work orders

Maintain hands-on expertise in company Material Planning System.

Help develop and implement new systems or system modifications that affect the Materials department

Other duties as assigned

Desired Qualifications

Required Education (if necessary):

BA or BS degree or equivalent experience

Preferred Experience:

3-5 years of experience as a buyer/planner

CPM Certified

Experience in a manufacturing environment

Proficient in Microsoft Office including Excel

MRP System experience

Working Environment:

Open office environment, located near a manufacturing facility and home office.

Position would require to work onsite 3 designated days per week with some flexibility.

Physical Demands:

Sitting, standing, lifting (no more than 40lbs)

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:

Full-time position, with potential need for evening/weekend support, scheduled Monday-Friday with majority of time on-site (some flexibility).
