\n\nJOB SUMMARY
\nThe Surgical Technician Reward PRN functions in the inter operative phase of patient care to expedite surgical procedures, under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse. This position assists the surgical team through the use of equipment and instrumentation to ensure that the operating room environment is safe and that required equipment is available and functioning properly.
\nESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE
\n\nSets up the OR according to surgical procedure schedules, and arranges sterile set up of instrument table supplies and equipment required for specific procedure.\nEnsures the proper functioning of surgical instruments, equipment and supplies during surgical procedures.\nPrepares operative site by aseptically cleaning and shaving, as necessary, and assists the surgical team with draping and positioning the patient.\nCleans Operating Room following each case by removing drapes, replacing hamper bags and trash bags, disposing of used supplies, cleaning and returning equipment to appropriate storage areas.\nEnsures the cleaning, decontamination, sterilization, maintenance and preparation of surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies for distribution.\nMaintains inventory of clean and sterilized surgical equipment, instruments, and supplies in accordance with Baylor Scott and White Health policies and procedures and regulatory standards.\nPartners and maintains control and maintenance of inventory; orders supplies; documents equipment use and cart supplies; maintains applicable records and files.\nFollows infection control policies, AORN recommendation practices, OSHA guidelines, and other regulatory requirements in order to assure a safe work environment for self, coworkers, and patients.\n\nKEY SUCCESS FACTORS
\n\nKnowledge of infection prevention and regulatory sterilization standards.\nKnowledge of the theory and application of sterile and aseptic technique.\nKnowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and implementation tools and technologies to facilitate a physician's performance of invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures.\nVerbal and written communication skills.\nInterpersonal skills to interact with surgical and central sterile processing team members.\nSuccessful completion of:\n\n\nCommission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) accredited OR other nationally accredited surgical technologist program. Additionally, holds and maintains certification as a (CST) surgical technologist by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or the National Center for Competency Testing or their successor OR\nSuccessful Completion of formal training program for surgical technology in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, or Coast Guard of the United States or in the United States Public Health Service Commissioner OR\nWas employed to practice surgical technology in a health care facility before September 1, 2009\n\n\n
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
\n\nMinimum of 2 years of relevant, productive CST experience in specialty area.\nMust be able to float across a minimum of three facilities in DFW Region\nMust be able to work a minimum of 4 shifts per month, plus 1 major and 2 minor holidays.\n\n\nBENEFITS
