Summary

Moffitt Cancer Center's Head and Neck Cancer Program is a uniquely specialized group offering individualized treatment for malignancies of the head and neck. With our team of skilled surgeons, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, pathologists, endocrinologists, radiologists and supportive care professionals – all of whom only treat head and neck cancers – we take a truly integrative approach to treatment, enabling patients to consult with numerous experts through a single referral.

Moffitt's Head and Neck Oncology Clinic cares for 24-45 patients every day, who are visiting our center for treatment related to:

Sarcomas of the head and neck Squamous cell carcinomas and other cutaneous malignancies of the head and neck Oral, laryngeal, oropharyngeal, hypopharyngeal and nasopharyngeal cancers Nasal and paranasal sinus cancers Endocrine and major/minor salivary tumors Benign and malignant skull base tumors Orbital tumors +/- skull base involvement Thyroid and parathyroid tumors Ear and temporal bone cancers Acoustic neuroma/vestibular schwannoma

At Moffitt, we provide each patient with an individualized treatment plan, using evidence-based pathways to select the most appropriate options from our broad spectrum of therapeutic services. From novel chemotherapy agents and highly targeted radiation therapy delivery techniques to minimally invasive, image-guided and robotic surgeries, numerous treatments can be combined to address each patient's unique needs. Diagnostic procedures, pain management support, speech and swallowing rehabilitation services and clinical trials are also available through Moffitt's advanced Head and Neck Cancer Program. And, due to our emphasis on translation research, we make it possible for patients to benefit from breakthroughs we achieve in our on-site labs as soon as possible. Our tumor board meets weekly to explore additional treatment and support options for each patient, ensuring that his or her ever-evolving needs are consistently being met.

We are currently looking for a Full Time Certified Medical Assistant to join our team.

Position Highlights:

Certified Medical Assistants are essential members of the clinic team. They contribute to the healthcare of patients by assisting with exams and procedures, organizing and managing patient flow, and taking on other responsibilities based on the needs of the department.

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have the following:

Prior experience in an outpatient clinic setting as a Medical Assistant. Experience assisting with biopsies, scope laryngoscopies and trache suctioning. Experience handling a wide variety of procedural instruments and maintaining a sterile field. 

Responsibilities:

Assists patients with ambulation and/or movement on/off exam table, chairs and/or in and out of wheelchairs utilizing proper body mechanics and safety measures such as, lift equipment. After proper patient identification, performs initial patient screening, including vital signs, screening questions, allergy information, and medication history as appropriate. Notifies appropriate staff of positive screening or abnormal vital signs. Documents collected data completely and accurately in medical record including staff notifications. Loads images in preparation for provider visit, as needed. Ensures clinic patient flow is smooth and efficient. Keeps patients and clinical team informed of delays. Communicates effectively to patients, providers, nurses, and other team members. Assists practitioner in patient procedures/treatments/examinations, including room preparation, patient positioning, supplies, and equipment. Departs from clinic those patients that do not require nursing intervention. Maintains and uses principles of aseptic techniques and universal precautions when performing clinical duties and tasks. Maintains the knowledge and skill necessary to provide care or services based on physical, psychosocial, educational, safety, and related criteria appropriate to the age of the patients served in the assigned service area. Utilizes computerized systems according to departmental needs. Provides support to the provider during clinic by assisting with phone calls and faxes. Recognizes emergency situations and implements emergency procedures. Administers first aid and CPR.

Credentials and Qualifications:

High School Diploma Certification or Registration from one of the following organizations: American Association of Medical Assistants (AMAA) American Medical Technologists (AMT) National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) National Healthcareer Association (NHA) National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP) BLS Certification Experience performing lab draws and EKG testing.
