Controller
Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer, the Controller is responsible for establishing, implementing, and maintaining an accounting and reporting system that accurately reflects the financial position of the Bank and its mutual holding company. This role requires a thorough understanding of financial reporting, risk management, and banking regulations.

Responsibilities:

Oversees the consolidated financial reporting for the Bank and mutual holding company to various end users, both internal and externalCoordinating the preparation of financial budgets and projections as well as periodic analysis of variances to actual resultsAssists the Chief Financial Officer with timely and accurate financial reporting to the Bank’s leadership committee and board of directorsAssists the Chief Financial Officer with all tax planning and research activities of the financial institution and provides tax advisory assistance to departments as neededReviews and coordinates the filing of all applicable federal and state income tax returnsOversees the preparation of year-end audited financial statements as well as the financial narrative and schedules included in the Bank’s Annual ReportEvaluates and implements all new accounting standards, interpretations, and emerging guidance, and communicates their impact on the BankEnsuring the continued maintenance and development of internal control procedures to provide for the protection of Bank assetsDevelops and maintains oversight of the Bank’s accounting policies and procedures, recommending to executive management and the board of directors as necessaryAssists the Chief Financial Officer and Chief Investment Officer in asset and liability management activities to ensure that interest rate and liquidity risk is appropriately measured, monitored, and managedServes on any of the Bank’s committees as requested by the Chief Financial OfficerCoordinates oversight of the Bank’s fixed asset records and related depreciation schedulesParticipates with personnel throughout the Bank as necessary, to assist in the resolution of significant and/or complex accounting and financial management issues.  Assists in the development, documentation, and implementation of bank-wide operational procedures as requiredOversees the supervision, training, and evaluation of financial accounting department staffResponsible for all general ledger reconciliationsAssumes additional responsibilities as requested including, but not limited to the following: Assists with special projects and assignments related to financial decisions; Serves as an informational resource for federal and state examiners, and internal and external auditors; Maintains an updated level of technical abilities in the field. 

Compliance and Control:

Assists in ensuring the Bank’s compliance with local, state, and federal regulationsEnsures continued maintenance and development of internal control proceduresCultivates and fosters personal and departmental engagement of the Bank’s risk management culture and overarching operating philosophy

General:

Interacts harmoniously and effectively with others, focusing upon the attainment of bank goals and objectives through a commitment to teamworkConforms to all acceptable standards as expressed in the Employee HandbookPerforms additional duties as requested

Knowledge/Skills/Experience Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in finance, accounting, or a related field.  Master’s degree and additional professional designation (e.g., CPA or CFA) highly preferredMinimum of ten years of accounting or audit experience with a demonstrated knowledge of accounting principles and corporate taxationAnalytically inclined with the ability to process and solve complex problemsProficient in financial analysis, budgeting, and forecasting techniquesDemonstrated management and supervisory experience with strong people skillsExcellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to collaborate and build relationships with stakeholders at all levels

Physical Demands/Conditions Requirements:

General office environment.Moderate lifting (to 35 lbs.) required.  Moderate reaching, walking, sitting, and standing required.
