The Director of Curriculum Design and Innovation is responsible for supporting the ongoing review of curriculum to implement innovative curriculum design for the program across both the academic and clinical phases. This individual will work closely with program faculty, administrators, and stakeholders to ensure that the curriculum is relevant, effective, accessible, up-to-date, and achieves its mission as a model of excellence in PA education while ensuring that students receive a comprehensive education that prepares them for the clinical setting and for the Physician Assistant National Certifying Exam (PANCE). The Director of Curriculum Design and Innovation will ensure there is continued improvement in the process of curriculum design, incorporating emerging trends in higher education as well as evidence of best practice to create a dynamic responsive curriculum that meets the needs of a diverse student body.

Function/Duties of Position

In support of the PA program’s Curricular Activities:

Lead faculty development activities, retreats, and seminars on adult learning and teaching practices. Support the curricular design process by conducting a comprehensive review of the current curriculum and making recommendations for improvements and updates, ensuring changes create a coherent pathway to competency attainment and ensure curricular breadth and depth.Work with program faculty to develop and/or refine instructional objectives, learning outcomes, and assessment in alignment with ARC-PA standards.Coordinate and support the development, review, and evaluation of resources provided to support matriculating students with attention to efforts that support diverse learners and evolving student needs and learning preferences. Liaise with the OHSU Teaching and Learning Center to ensure best practices for curricular and instructional design.Support continuous improvement of the curricular design by conducting regular evaluations of the curriculum, and development of training materials and resources for faculty and staff.Communicate regularly with program stakeholders to ensure that they are aware of the recommended curricular modifications.In collaboration with program faculty and staff, evaluate student assessment for efficacy and alignment across both phases of the program. Work in collaboration with the Director of Research and Assessment to evaluate student performance in relevant competency areas and correlation with predicted performance on the Physician Assistant National Certifying Examination (PANCE).In collaboration with program faculty map curricular content for annual review. 

As a member of the faculty of the PA Program:

Contribute to student instruction as course director and/or instructor, consistent with areas of expertise as assigned by the Program DirectorReview and revise as necessary the mission statement, goals, and competencies for the program.Evaluate student performance and assure the availability of remedial instruction.Develop, implement, coordinate, and evaluate curriculum. Evaluate the program by participating in the program’s ongoing self-assessment, analysis, and accreditation processes. Provide academic advising support to students throughout the educational program. Participate in the selection of applicants for admission to the PA program.Participate on program committees as assigned by the Program Director, such as the Progress and Promotion Committee, Admissions Selection Committee, Policy Committee, Curriculum Committee and other ad-hoc committees as necessary.Participate in state and national PA organizations as necessary to promote the program and the profession.Represent the PA program through service on committees at the University level as required. Pursue faculty development in activities outside of the program such as clinical practice or scholarly activities agreed upon by the Program Director and the individual. Perform other duties as determined by the Program Director from time to time. Of note, the Director of Curriculum Design and Innovation must not participate as a health care provider for students in the program, except in an emergency situation.Clinical practice up to 20% of effort if applicable. Required Qualifications

PA from an accredited academic institution and an advanced degree (Masters, DMSc/DHSc, PhD/EdD) in education, teaching, or learning sciences or equivalent experience. 

At least 3 years of clinical practice.

Current NCCPA certification. 

Eligibility for licensure in the state of Oregon.

Preferred Qualifications At least 5 years of experience in curriculum development or instructional design, preferably within a PA program.Knowledge of ARC-PA accreditation standards and best practices in curriculum development.Demonstrated experience leading curriculum development initiatives.Strong organizational, interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills.
