Job Summary:
The Tax Experienced Senior, Private Client & Family Office Services is responsible for performing and overseeing the full cycle general accounting function for small to mid-size organizations, utilizing research skills, gathering client information necessary for filing, participating in tax planning, recognizing and communicating potential risks. In this role, the Tax Experienced Senior, Private Client & Family Office Services may be charged with supervising and reviewing the work of Private Client & Family Office Services Associates.

Tax Compliance
Ensures that (a) clients comply with all applicable authorities, while at the same time minimizing their tax and reporting burdens, and (b) self and client service teams comply with all Firm policies, standards, and the BDO Tax Quality Manual (“TQM”) Manages projects by planning the tax process and the procedures to be performed with quality Answers preparer questions, and coordinates engagement from onset by communicating expectations and procedures with preparers Conducts detailed reviews on all returns and appropriate review notes for preparers; raises potential tax issues Meets internal deadlines to match the client expectations for timely delivery of service Manages projects by developing a budget; monitoring budget vs. actual; scheduling resources for project and identifying out-of-scope activityResearch
Identifies when research is needed; clearly and concisely frames issues to be researched; and clearly and concisely reports the analysis Applies most Firm and professional standards for preparation of tax returnsStrategy Development
Introduces and develops new or improved ideas to improve the position of clients, the Firm, or Firm personnel, e.g., by reducing taxes or expenses or providing non-tax benefits Prepares studies of tax implications and offers clients alternative courses of action, as neededSupervisory Responsibilities:
Supervises and manages the day-to-day work assignments of PCS-FOS Associates and Paraprofessionals, as needed Provides verbal and written performance feedback to PCS-FOS Associates and Paraprofessionals, as necessary Acts as mentor to PCS-FOS Associates and Paraprofessionals
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Education:
One of the following is required: Bachelor’s degree, focus in Accounting or Finance High School Diploma or equivalent and five (5) or more years performing general accounting transactions and functions with some consultative or business advisory experienceExperience:
Four (4) or more years of experience performing general accounting transactions and functions, required Consultative or business advisory experience, preferred Prior basic supervisory experience, preferredLicense/Certifications:
Currently enrolled in CPA certification, preferred CPA Certification, preferredSoftware:
Proficient in the use of the Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel and Word, required Experience utilizing industry standard accounting software, required Experience utilizing BSO (BDODrive) platform software such as Intuit’s QuickBooks Online (QBO), Microsoft NAV and Bill.com, CaseWare, BNA Depreciation Software, preferred SEI Archway and Qvinchi, preferredOther Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills Strong analytical and basic research skills Solid organizational skills especially the ability to meet project deadlines with a focus on details Ability to successfully multi-task while working independently or within a group environment Proven ability to work in a deadline-driven environment and handle multiple projects simultaneously Ability to interact effectively with people at all organizational levels of the firm Ability to understand complex broker/private equity statements and properly record and review investment activity Knowledgeable of finance and accounting functions, technology for supporting these functions, and tax planning can differ by industry and business structure; knows what is required from a compliance perspective and what is considered a standard or best practice for the industry or business structure Takes personal accountability for work products and accepts constructive feedback to guide future actions Understands and explains tax planning considerations/concepts for various business entities; comprehends the information presented on different tax return forms Recognizes opportunities for innovation, including improvements for handling day-to-day matters and developing an understanding of process improvements Ability to learn new technology quickly Capability to effectively guide a team of professionals and delegating work assignments as needed Ability to travel up to 20% of the time
Individual salaries that are offered to a candidate are determined after consideration of numerous factors including but not limited to the candidate’s qualifications, experience, skills, and geography.
National Range: $60,000 - $110,000
NYC/Long Island/Westchester Range: $60,000 - $110,000
Colorado Range: $75,000 - $100,000
