Galley Assistant

Summary  

Assist in preparations for serving meals for the whole crew. Responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of the kitchen and the galley area. Include assisting cooks in the preparation of meal ingredients, helping other staff with unloading food items from delivery trucks, and washing and drying the utensils, dishes, and cookware. 

Essential Functions/Qualifications 

The responsibilities of the position include the following:  

Washes dishes and cookware, cleans tables and floors, empties trash. Maintains a clean working environment. Responsible for cleaning kitchen, kitchen equipment, and all dishes daily. Cleans the galley area after every meal. Restocks beverage machines and condiments on a regular basis as necessary. Assists in organizing and securing the food storage lockers. Assists with food and supplies inventory. Assists with related special projects, as required. Timely and regular attendance Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines. Ability to maintain respectful professional relationships with other employees and service providers in a stressful environment. Other duties as assigned.

Strong verbal communication skills to help staff and management perform essential duties. Can read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, memos & write to respond. Adhere to health and safety regulations. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide into all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Demonstrating a passion for the type of food being cooked and a willingness to continuously stay up to date on trends in the kitchen industry. Attention to detail to ensure specifications are being met and quality of food is up to standard. Ability to maintain a high level of accuracy in preparing and entering information. Maintain professional relationships while exhibiting good interpersonal skills to get along with co-workers.

Education and Experience  

High School diploma or GED. Proven experience helping in kitchen settings. Sound knowledge of food safety standards and procedures. 6 months' related experience in the Seafood industry or similar training/education. ServSafe certification preferred.  Work Environment and Schedule  

Physical Demands 

Employees are exposed to a wet and cold environment. Employees are regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. Employees are frequently required to climb or balance. The employee is occasionally required to sit; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception. 

 Mental Activities 

The employee is frequently required to set an example by consistently modeling high standards of honesty and integrity. Presentation and sharing of information should be handled in a direct, appropriate, and helpful manner. Maintains a reputation for honesty, confidentiality, reliability, and fairness.
