Summary of Primary Function/General Purpose of Position

The Grounds & Equipment Mechanic performs preventive maintenance and repairs of electrical, gasoline, and diesel powered grounds keeping equipment, specialized machines, hand, and power tools used with planting, mowing, and snow removal.  This position also performs planting, cultivating, mowing, and snow removal.  Additional duties may be added.

Essential Job Functions

Performs summer and winter maintenance, including designing landscape and planting schemes.

Maintains fleet vehicles as well as mowers, trimmers, and hand held equipment including small engine repair.

Performs skilled Arborist work such as pruning, shaping and planning with specialized equipment.

Performs horticulture tasks including diagnosis of pests, diseases, and method of treatment if needed.

Ability to weld to repair damaged equipment and fabrication of parts.

Strictly adheres to The Ohio Department of Agriculture’s laws on proper use of pesticides.

Must be available for winter maintenance which includes snow removal and ice control.

Operate medium size wheel loaders.

Assist Facilities staff when needed.

Employment Qualifications

Required Minimum Education: High School Diploma or GED

Preferred Education: Vocational/ Technical Degree

Licensure/Certification Required: Current Ohio Pesticide License, or obtaining within 1st year

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Years and Type of Experience: 3-5

Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: Must have a valid Ohio driver’s license. Must be able to operate loaders, skid loaders etc.

Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred: Extensive plant identification skills
