HVAC MECHANIC II

Located in Fort Meade, Maryland, the core working hours are 7:00 am to 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday. 

Starting pay is $43.53 per hour, plus overtime. State of Maryland Journeyman License required Master license preferred possession of a valid appropriate driver’s license for the state of residence. A collective bargaining agreement governs this site. Must be able to pass and maintain a government security background check. Must be able to use MAXIMO or other CMMS software.

INTRODUCTION

State of Maryland Journeyman License required. Maryland Master HVAC license preferred. The HVAC Mechanic II performs skilled technical work in the maintenance, repair, replacement, and installation of heating, air conditioning, refrigeration equipment, controls, and distribution systems. Located in Fort Meade, Maryland, the core working hours are 7:00 am to 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday. The hourly wage is $42.43. The HVAC Mechanic II is a full-Time, non-exempt position, and employees are eligible for overtime pay. A collective bargaining agreement governs this site.

QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) with five or more years of progressively responsible experience working with complex HVAC systems and equipment, including chillers, boilers, package units, VAV systems (direct digital, pneumatic, and automated control systems) Prior experience working on government contracts and working with persons with differing abilities is preferred. State of Maryland Journeyman License required Master License preferred. Possession of a valid appropriate driver’s license for the state of residence Must be able to pass and maintain a government security background check. Must be able to use MAXIMO or other CMMS software. Pre-employment background checks, including E-Verify, are required for all employment positions.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Installs troubleshoots, and repairs heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration units, including chillers, boilers, and heat pumps. Troubleshoots malfunctioning heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems to determine the cause of the malfunction. Performs scheduled maintenance inspections and adjusts, cleans, and calibrates various systems to ensure proper system operations. Repairs wiring and electronic components associated with automated building management systems. Replaces expansion valves, compressors, motors, coil units, and other parts Cleans refrigerant systems from hermetic burnouts, evacuates, and charges systems. Troubleshoots and repairs direct digital and pneumatic control systems. Checks distribution systems for proper velocity, volume, temperature, pressure, etc. Balances air and water treatment systems Determines the cause of and corrects condensation problems. Provides technical assistance with the design of HVAC systems, including installations and modifications to existing systems. Assists in training other technicians and staff in preventative maintenance of HVAC systems. Prepares records and reports describing procedures, actions taken, and recommended solutions. Prepares and submits requests for supplies and equipment. Responds to emergency service requests. May supervise the work of other technicians.

 PHYSICAL QUALIFICATIONS

Must be able to sit 85% of the time; stand/walk 15% of the time; must be able to lift, carry, push, and or pull 30 lbs. Must be able to speak, hear and see. All of these requirements are necessary to accomplish all essential functions within this job description properly.
