Lead Video Technician, Theater Entertainment

Under the direction of the Production Manager, the Video Lead guides the installations of all video related production needs of the Event Center. This position supports production management in leading trainings and enforcing standards and procedures, and relaying communication within the production team. This role serves as the contact for any video/network production questions and serves as an expert for identifying possible problems within internal systems and ensuring proper trouble shooting. This individual holds responsibility for both programming as well as operating video equipment as needed, and will be able to quickly adapt or alter video programing situations based on events or performer needs.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

1. Leads all installations of video related production needs. Oversees and operates systems pertaining to video throughout the entire event. Ensures standards and procedures are adhered to and communicates any concerns to department management.

2. Ensures video operations and video control boards are operating and programmed in a safe and consistent manner.

3. Operates various Panasonic cameras during events under the direction of the production manager. Sets up and tears down cameras and intercom lines when necessary. Makes ISO recordings per client wishes.

4. Make sure proper care and handling is conducted of all in-house and rental lighting and A/V equipment.

5. Assists with production throughout the event as needed. Assists the technical advance with artist’s representatives. Communicate with production manager to determine tour audio needs.

6. Rapidly diagnose video production system issues and IT problems and provide alternative solutions if needed to maintain production deadlines. Maintain software updates on all video production equipment throughout the theater and inside the control room.

7. Performs all necessary maintenance and repairs of all equipment and expedites maintenance issues as necessary to appropriate service vendors.  Executes preventative maintenance programs and procedures, as assigned.  

8. Performs the load-in of band equipment and rental equipment. Sets up and breaks down band and event equipment. 

9. Performs other duties as assigned to support the efficient operation of the department.

Education/Experience/Qualifications Associate’s Degree in related field required. Bachelor’s Degree in related field preferred. Minimum six (6) years of experience with live entertainment performance video production is required. Previous experience as a Head level video programmer is required. Equivalent combination of education and progressive, relevant and direct tour experience may be considered in lieu of minimum educational requirements indicated above. Musical touring and electrical experience preferred. Must have vast knowledge of lighting systems, video distribution, digital equipment and audio integration systems. Advanced troubleshooting skills with video systems, including Ross, Blackmagic, Panasonic and Planar Must have manual dexterity, technical acumen. An excellent eye for image quality is required. Experience in troubleshooting fiber, smpte and Ethernet, networks. Advanced knowledge of video production software and integration, including Grand MA on PC, Stream Deck, Black magic, Atem and resolume. Live music venue experience with large-scale events and tours required. Must have a strong IT background. Must be proficient in both Mac and PC platforms. Must have working knowledge of live music video systems inclusive of LED wall displays and fixed camera operations. Must be a strong self-starter who is able to set priorities under pressure of deadlines and maintain the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously. Must have exceptional customer service skills and possess a strong ability to lead and build teams. Must be proficient in both Mac and PC platforms. Must have advanced proficiency in Microsoft 365. Must possess the ability to learn and thoroughly understand current and new technical systems. Must be able to read and understand technical materials. Must possess the ability to understand, synthesize, and troubleshoot large complex video systems. Certificates/Licenses/Registrations At the discretion of the San Manuel Tribal Gaming Commission, you may be required to obtain and maintain a gaming license. A qualified candidate/employee must have a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record as determined by the company’s insurance carrier. Professional certification in lighting technology or related field is required at time of hire. AVIXA-CTS certification is preferred. Certification/training in Grand MA consoles, various moving lights strongly preferred.
