OR Technician

Under direction and supervision of a registered nurse, medical staff, and the Surgical Services Manager, the OR Technician provides care, performs technical functions, and upholds the standard of practice in ensuring safety of all patients. The OR Technician is responsible for facilitating communication between physicians and caregivers in the department.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

* Cooperates as a member of the operating room, department, and overall hospital team.

• Utilizes the nursing process as a basis for nursing care.

• Maintains a safe environment relative to sterile technique, aseptic practice, and equipment.

• Applies basic teaching / learning concepts to patient education.

• Provides for life support.

• Acts as a patient advocate.

• Participates in performance improvement.

• Adheres to operating room process and protocols.

• Performs related work as required.

• Provides sterile instruments, equipment, drapes, and other sterile supplies for the surgical procedure.

• Performs technical functions, applying professional skills.

• Documents and maintains date on patient’s record.

• Communicates pertinent data to appropriate parties.

• Maintains patient confidentiality.

• Provides for life support.

• Acts as a patient advocate.

• Conducts herself/himself effectively in stressful situations.

* Approaches situations with distressed patients, families, and visitors in a calm, professional manner.

Education: Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing or Surgical Technology Program.

Certification/License: Operating Room Tech (ORT) preferred.  CPR required.
