Job Summary:

Provides assessment, treatment, planning, education, communication, and demonstration of leadership to address the needs of patients and families. Fosters a positive working relationship among professionals and ancillary staff.

Job Functions:

A. Plan, prepare and carry out individually designed programs of physical treatment to maintain, improve, or restore physical functioning, alleviate pain and prevent physical dysfunction in patients.

B. Perform and document an initial exam, review the medical record to help determine diagnosis and physical therapy treatment plan.

C. Evaluate the effects of treatment at various stages and adjust treatments to achieve maximum benefit.

D. Administer manual exercises, massage and/or traction to help relieve pain, increase the patient's strength, and decrease or prevent deformity and crippling.

E. Administer treatment involving application of physical agents, using equipment, moist packs, ultrasound machines, and electrical stimulation.

F. Instruct the patient and family in a home exercise program.

G. Discharge patient from physical therapy when goals are achieved or projected outcomes have been attained and provide appropriate follow-up care or referrals. H. Teach/supervise physical therapy students as well as those in other health professions.

I. Evaluate, fit, and adjust prosthetic and orthotic devices and recommend modification to orthotist.

J. Conduct and support research and apply research findings to practice.

K. Maintains patient records per hospital policy and maintains all required prescriptions and signatures.

Required:

Minimum of a Bachelors degree in Physical Therapy. Current PT license in the state of Kentucky. 2. BLS certification.
