Overview

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Assesses and oversees health care for the students at Genesee Lake School.  Completes medical treatments and attends to all emergency nursing needs as they arise.Supervises and monitors students that are ill and in bed.  Notifies Food Services of any temporary dietary changes for students who are ill and need a modified diet. Packages medications according to licensing standards, supervises and delegates medication administration for agency.Receives medication changes from medical provider, processes medication changes and communicates with pharmacies about medications as needed. Assists with checking in medications for respite students and disseminating the medications to the correct program area.Oversees the destruction of medications per licensing regulations.Provides consultation to Admissions team on complicated medical issues to determine level of support needed for a student. Upon admission conducts initial assessment of psychological needs, medical protocols, appropriate labs, specialized diet, and coordinates medications with providers.  Sends appropriate information to the Treatment Team.  Creates medical chart for and enters initial information into ICMS.Upon discharge of a student, prepares and provides a report of the student’s entire stay at Genesee Lake School with a summary of their treatment.Liaison for health services and the contracted physicians at Genesee Lake School.  Assists the physician weekly and as  needed, with exams and is responsible for carrying out the physician’s written orders. Attends medication reviews with the psychiatrist as needed.Ensures that all necessary authorization from consulting physicians has been obtained and used according to licensing requirements.Participates in on-call rotation taking calls from direct care staff from the Center and Group Homes after hours.May transport students to medical appointments as needed.Conducts trainings for new hire orientation and refreshers and educates staff regarding any health care needs of the students.Acts as a member of intradisciplinary teams and maintains supportive relationships between disciplines, departments and individual staff members in all actions and communications as it relates to the healthcare of the students including having contact with families. Conducts self in positive, respectful and collaborative manner demonstrating proactive actions and decision making that foster supportive work relationships and a healthy and safe environment.  Communicates effectively verbally and in writing with internal and external customers maintaining professional conduct and confidentiality. Maintains abreast of current trends in services and other related areas; attends conferences, workshops and other training as needed and shares this new information with department.Complies with and positively reinforces with others the expectations outlined in: Company Handbook; policies and procedures including emergency/disaster procedures, fire/tornado safety and maintains confidentiality.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

·Associate Degree or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing required.

·Maintains current licensure as a Registered Nurse by the State of Wisconsin.

·1-2 years previous psychiatric nursing experience with emotionally disturbed or intellectually disabled students preferred.

Salary: $63,000- $70, 000; based on years of experience

Schedule: 1st shift; FT w/ phone on-call rotation
