POSITION SUMMARY: 

The Residential Counselor provides support and guidance to minors living in the residential shelter setting. Responsibilities include assisting with daily activities, addressing emotional needs, and promoting a positive living environment. 


Duties and Responsibilities:

Ensures that daily living needs of youth are met through delegation of responsibilities to Residential counseling staff. 

 Coordinates appointments with medical consultants, ensures all over-the-counter and prescription supplies and medication is on hand and correctly administered. 

Coordinates other appointments (i.e. court appearances) with Therapists and Periodic Transport staff. 

Works closely with teachers and other residential staff in carrying out and following through on education and jobs related goals. 

Engages in caring supervision and structure for youth in residence which is consistent with stated goals and objectives, Day, Evening and Weekends. 

Instructs, guides, and counsels youth informally throughout their interactions in day to day activities. 

Provides life skills education and goal-setting groups 

Co-leads recreation and physical education activities scheduled during shift.

Provides one-to-one assistance and engages youth. 

Provides transportation to and from appointments as a support 

Substitutes in the event of Senior Resident counselor is unavailable. 

Provides direct level of supervision to youth in the program and on activity outage.

Ensures that youth complete their goals as set forth in their treatment plans. 

Ensures that the physical site of the program is clean and orderly as set forth in the policy and procedures. 

Exercises effective time management skills including, but not limited to, organizing and prioritizing work in order to meet deadlines. 

Maintains appropriate and professional relationship with all external parties including, but not limited to, vendors, funders, partners, state and federal agencies. 

Assists youth in their daily life skills, education, and chores in the program. 

Be within sight and sound for staff ratio and remain observant of the minors until relief is given.

All non-exempt hourly staff qualify for a 30 minute lunch.

Teamwork: Ability to collaborate and perform with staff in a fast paced environment.

Demonstrates knowledge of surrounding community challenges and best practice research-oriented solutions and the ability to utilize this knowledge to affect changes in the lives of our children, adults and families served. 

Displays professional demeanor in all interactions with children, adults, and families served, as well as colleagues, and/or community members. 

Adheres to Center for Family services best practices and ongoing training 

compliance. 

Coordinates with CFS Operations Department on facility improvement, ensuring that each site complies with CFS standards of excellence - ensures that systems are in place for required and enhanced cleanliness, safety and homelike environments. 

REQUIREMENTS: 

High School Diploma or GED, Associates degree preferred. 

One or more years working in child welfare or with adolescents in a social service setting.

Valid drivers license for at least 3 years with excellent Driving skills and clean driving record.

If required to drive a personal vehicle for work purposes, the personal vehicle must be appropriately registered with the state and maintain automobile insurance. 

Must successfully submit to and complete medical, criminal, motor vehicle and other background screenings including drug screening. 

Bi-lingual highly preferred 

Proficient in Microsoft windows and Gmail.
