About this position

Provides high performance technical expertise, focused and specialized in life support measures, code response, and the care and diagnosis of both acute and chronic pulmonary disorders. Respiratory Therapists also provide a cross-divisional resource for clinical support and education in the Medical Center.

Provides for the administration of airway management, mechanical ventilator application and management, therapeutic respiratory care services, oxygen and aerosol therapy, limited diagnostic services, near-patient testing (NPT), CPR, customer transport, customer education, and other special services as provided in the department scope of services. These services may include newborn, infant, child, adolescent, adult, and geriatric customer groups, including acute and chronic care conditions.

Education

• Graduate of an approved JRCRTE/COARC respiratory care program   

Experience

Experience
• Training and experience in a medical acute care environment
• Some positions may require experience in one or more of the following specialized areas:
- NICU
- Diagnostics-PFT/Bronchoscopy
- Pulmonary/Rehab
- Equipment Specialist
- Charge
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Demonstrates an ability to communicate effectively, organize and prioritize assignments, make decisions, and exercise good judgment
• Current RCP scope of practice at North Memorial for non-specific assignment.  

Licensure/Certification

• Current Minnesota RT License (Team members must meet all annual requirements for renewal including mandated CEU's)
• Must be currently certified as a BLS provider
• Must attain and maintain certification as an ACLS Provider; only applicable for Respiratory Therapists with therapeutic in-patient contact (provided)
• Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT)
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) if assigned to NICU
• Certified Pulmonary Function Technologist (CPFT) if assigned to Diagnostics-PFT/Bronchoscopy
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) if assigned to Charge position
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) if assigned to Charge position
