Senior Packaging Engineer, Device Packaging Experience
Amazon Lab126 is an inventive research and development company that designs and engineers high-profile consumer electronic devices. Lab126 began in 2004 as a subsidiary of Amazon.com. Since then, we have worked to produce hardware and software for Fire tablets, Kindle Oasis, Amazon Fire TV, and Amazon Echo. The Packaging Engineering team works closely with Design, Global Commodity Management, Supplier Quality Management, and Operations teams in the US and China throughout the design cycle. They are responsible for helping to drive the development of packaging part manufacturing and processes towards Marketing and ID intent. They are also responsible for participating in early engagement design recommendations, driving detailed engineering studies, and continuously driving towards yield and cycle time targets ahead of mass production.

Key job responsibilities
As a Packaging Engineer, you will be responsible for working with US and regional teams, closely monitoring and driving packaging engineering initiatives and processes from concept through mass production. You will be an integral part of executing packaging build strategies, including DFM innovation, new product development, execution efficiency, and best practice. You will be a critical escalation path for packaging process issues and work closely with China and US leadership teams to ensure cross-functional collaboration is effective.

• Sustainability and recyclable packaging systems
• Packaging process and fixture development
• Print decoration and treatments
• Proven strong organizational and problem solving skills
• Demonstrated critical thinking capability
• Enthusiasm for getting “hands on” with your team in collaborative environments
• Ability to identify risks, develop clear mitigation plans, and communicate effectively to executive stakeholders while handling multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced rapidly evolving environment

A day in the life
• Design, analyze, and document consumer-facing packaging components and assemblies that delight consumers at the lowest cost of ownership. Redefine what sustainable packaging can be.
• Conduct tests and engineering studies to validate the robustness and proper performance of new packaging. Identify and reduce packaging risks.
• Review and develop process, automation opportunities, and fixtures with contract manufacturers and packaging suppliers.
• Bring clarity, and simplicity to complexity, probe assumptions, illuminate pitfalls, and foster shared understanding of packages and their related processes.
• Travel domestically and internationally to supplier sites to collaborate with staff and keep teams moving.
