Job Summary Chief Nurse Executive Tower Health Corporate and Reading Hospital, located in Reading, Pennsylvania, seeks a collaborative, creative and inspirational Chief Nurse Executive of Tower Health (CNE) and Senior Vice President & Chief Nursing Officer of Reading Hospital (CNO) to lead patient care services into the future. This is an exciting opportunity to partner with senior leadership to continue to provide nursing excellence throughout the Tower Health system and our Flagship Reading Hospital, one of the top 50 hospitals in the country. The primary expectation of the Chief Nurse Executive for Tower Health is serving as the Senior Vice President & Chief Nursing Officer for Reading Hospital, reporting to the President & CEO of Reading Hospital. As a Magnet Recognized, regional referral center with 65% inpatient market share for a primary service population of 326,000, Reading Hospital is staffing 665 beds and is home to many top-tier specialty care centers, including: Reading HealthPlex, McGlinn Cancer Institute, Miller Regional Heart Center, an emergency department that includes a Level I Trauma Center, and the Beginnings Maternity Center, which houses the region's only Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). The CNO will be responsible for patient care services of Reading Hospital and will play an instrumental role in leading and driving activities operationally, financially, and culturally throughout the system, as well as for nursing. The CNO will build on an abundance of existing strengths while also reimagining nursing services and new care models, strengthening the excellence and high-quality care the organization has been known for historically. The incumbent will be a master of developing collaborative relationships and driving outcomes-based initiatives. It will be a priority to develop the most effective and efficient workforce strategy to ensure nursing colleagues are performing to their highest ability and creative, contemporary recruitment and retention practices are being leveraged. For more information, please visit https://towerhealth.org/. In the capacity of Chief Nurse Executive of Tower Health, this position reports to the President of Tower Health. The additional responsibilities include nursing oversight of the remaining entities of Tower Health, which include Phoenixville Hospital, Pottstown Hospital and St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children. In this role the expectation is to foster systemization, especially in the Route 422 Corridor, provide mentorship and guidance to the other hospital CNO’s, and ensure overall nursing excellence. The ideal candidate will be a seasoned, bold, and relationship-oriented nursing leader with significant experience developing and executing nursing strategy and operations in a complex acute care organization. Candidates should have experience leading and implementing quality and culture improvement initiatives. The successful candidate will be a leader who holds themselves and others accountable and leads through influence and an orientation toward outcomes and serving patients. A working knowledge of Magnet criteria and principles is preferred. Qualifications Candidate Qualifications Education/Certification A BSN nursing degree from an accredited college or university is required; Master's degree in nursing, health administration or MBA required. Current Nursing License in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania or ability to obtain and maintain licensure upon hire. Knowledge and Work Experience Previous experience as a nursing leader in a large, complex medical center or system environment. Progressively responsible experience in hospital nursing operations with demonstrated professional and technical knowledge and experience in all facets of contemporary nursing leadership and experience will be important. A demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all constituents across a complex, highly diverse organization; the ability to function as a team leader and collaborative consensus builder. A history of working positively and effectively with physicians, understanding their needs, and assisting them in the development of clinical programs and the provision of excellent patient care. A demonstrated record of improving hospital operations from the perspective of quality, cost, overall productivity, efficiency, and market share while maintaining team member morale will be important. Strong financial skills including reimbursement, managed care, and financial accountability. Evidence of ability to develop annual operating and financial plans with an understanding of expenses and revenue. Proven ability to recruit, train and motivate clinical and non-clinical personnel in order to balance staffing strength with profitability and growth. Demonstrated ability to lead and effect change, including skills in continuous quality improvement and promoting ongoing professional development. Proven record of accomplishment in increasing patient service and quality metrics within an organization. Knowledge of the High Reliability Organizations core concepts and fundamentals. A commitment to a participation management style and to a team-oriented model of care with a contemporary knowledge of care delivery models, healthcare policy and industry trends. An individual who keeps current with the profession and is active in professional organizations. An outstanding communicator who possesses superb written and oral presentation skills as well as active listening skills.
