Inova Fair Oaks Hospital is seeking a PRN (on-call) Surgical Technologist to join our dedicated Labor and Delivery Room team. This PRN position may require evening, nights, and weekends.

Position Requirements:

High School Diploma or GED Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist program. If no surgical technologist experience, then must have graduated within the last year. 1 Year Surg Tech experience or equivalent Recent Hospital experience and/or previous practice experience preferred Surgical Technologist registration required Must be eligible for Surgical Technologist registration via Commonwealth of Virginia at time of hire. Registration must be completed within 6 months of hire. BLS via AHA required upon start  Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) via NBSTSA or Tech in Surgery – Certified (TS-C) via NCCT preferred

Job Responsibilities:

Expedites the operative procedure by anticipating the needs of the surgeon. Demonstrates advanced knowledge of anatomy and is able to anticipate the required instrumentation for each step of a surgical procedure. Demonstrates advanced knowledge and practice in the role of the first scrub. Keeps the circulating nurse informed of upcoming patient care needs. Demonstrates advanced knowledge of aseptic and surgical techniques. Establishes and maintains an organized sterile field and applies principles of asepsis. Demonstrates collaboration with other team members in planning/giving patient care. Actively shares knowledge with staff regarding instrument sets/techniques and procedures. Demonstrates appropriate use of emergency equipment, supplies, and resources. Serves as a resource in at least 2 specialty areas/procedures. Performs in preceptor role for new & experienced staff in the scrub role. Provides working knowledge of powered instrumentation, video equipment, microscopes, and complex instrumentation, equipment. Assists in the evaluation of new products and equipment. Participates in at least one unit-based committee/council and/or accepts individual assignments to work on improving patient care/unit-based issues. Documents evidence of at least 20 hours of self-development activities with a minimum of 6 formal contact hours. Identifies variances from expected outcomes and responds to changes in patient needs. Maintains sterile field during emergencies. May perform additional duties as assigned.
