Tube Laser Operator
POSITION: Tube Laser Operator JOB SUMMARY: The Tube Laser Technologist provides production of equipment, maintenance of machinery, movement of materials, allocation and organization of resources, development of personnel, and achievement of departmental and organizational goals. The Technologist will use his/her knowledge of laser machinery to effectively and efficiently maintain machinery to ensure maximum productivity is obtained, while fine tuning machine processes. The Technologist will also train and develop individuals in the proper operation of machinery to minimize machine downtime and repairs. Teamwork and customer service skills are important as Technologists are expected to work directly and indirectly with employees, leads, supervisors and managers, and outside vendors. Technologists will consistently demonstrate high levels of responsibility and accountability. Technologists will be available for shiftwork and on-call work where appropriate in order to respond to the needs of the build plan. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned as necessary. • Become the technical expert and thereby provide technical support to the department Lead for the Tube Laser operations and parts fabricated and use this knowledge to actively train and mentor others, continually improving operator proficiency and knowledge. • Understand laser operating instructions and maintain programmer-level knowledge required for the safe and efficient use of the machinery. • Spend significant time performing routine preventative maintenance on equipment and troubleshooting analysis during machining, making necessary adjustments and tuning of parameters as needed to ensure smooth operation of machines while maintaining quality standards. • Be a top Tube Laser performer & role model in productivity, quality, & safe working habits. • Assist the department Lead in developing personnel by actively participating in training and coaching operators on proper operation of machinery. • Assist the department Lead/Supervisor in setting and achieving production goals by providing regular reports on machine utilization and efficiency. • Ensure established processes and procedures are optimized, implemented and adhered to. • Recognize and implement improvements inside and outside the department (i.e current and future processes, personnel, maintenance) and effectively communicate and coordinate action plans with the department Lead to implement changes. • Actively work with internal and external customers to identify and solve problems. Qualifications and Requirements • Knowledge, aptitude or experience in, or ability to learn CNC programming and CAD. • Desire and willingness to attend off-site training seminars for additional technical and professional development. • Experience reading instructional drawings and schematics. • Well-developed knowledge of processes, equipment, parts, systems, tools, and machinery required in equipment manufacturing and production. • Ability to successfully manage multiple projects and deadlines. • Excellent troubleshooting, critical thinking, and analytical skills. • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal. • Ability to effectively work with ERP system, spreadsheets, word processing documents, and other applicable computer systems and software. • Ability to improve the cut quality on lasers. • General understanding of metallurgy. Machines or Equipment Typically Operated • CNC laser cutter, plasma cutter, overhead crane, forklift, pallet jack, hand tools, etc. • Computer, copier, scanner, telephone, printer. • Other machines and equipment specific to departmental or facility needs. TYPICAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS • Medium work involving: Climbing, Balancing, Stooping, Kneeling, Crouching, Crawling, Reaching, Standing, Walking, Pushing, Pulling, Hearing, Talking, Grasping, Feeling, Handling, Repetitive motions, Small Motor Skills, Visual Acuity, Lifting (Up to 50 lbs) Typical Working Environment The worker is subject to inside environmental conditions typical of a manufacturing environment. There is protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. There is sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard above the ambient noise level. The environment includes a variety of physical conditions such a proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, and working on scaffolding or other high places. The employee may be exposed to one or more of the following conditions that affect the respiratory system or the skin: fumes, odors, dust mists, gases or poor ventilation.
