SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Director of Radiology, performs duties directly involved with a variety of technical procedures in the use of ultrasound for the diagnosis of disease or pathology.  Must use various ultrasound modalities dependent on the type of anatomy being examined.  Must become proficient in recognizing cross-sectional anatomy and understanding of related technology.  Demonstrates favorable guest relations and continues to promote values of the hospital in daily work performance.  May also perform other related patient care duties.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

1. Prepares equipment and scanning area for patient procedures.  Escorts patients to room and assists

     in positioning for necessary scan.

2.  Applies lubricants to skin surface to maintain contact with transducer probe and places probe to

     pre-selected areas of anatomy.  Manipulates equipment controls to obtain maximum resolution of

     ultrasound frequency.  Obtains scan in various required angles and positions.  Records scans on

     hard copy and presents to the radiologist for approval.

3.  Schedules patients.

4.  Practices sterile techniques and prevents cross-contamination.

5.  Cooperates with all personnel in the proper conduct of the department.  Maintains ethical

     relationships.

6.  May be requested to assist in the development of techniques for procedures.  May assist in the

     use of a variety of equipment and procedures not routinely employed.

7.  Will be available for rotating emergency call.

8.  May transport patient to and from ultrasound section if the need arises.  May perform clerical

     and technical related duties in regards to better patient care.

9.  Checks equipment, accessories, and supplies.  Keeps areas stocked at all times, cleans equipment

     after each patient use and cleans the ultrasound rooms daily.

10. Assists others in the department, requests assistance when necessary and demonstrates a team

     approach to patient care.

11. Assists in developing the skills of students, trainees, or residents.

12. May perform supervisory duties in the absence of the Department Supervisor.

13. May perform any other related duties as assigned by department supervisor.

Must be willing to adjust work schedules and/or normal operating procedures whenever patient care demands
must be met.


EDUCATION

High school or college graduate.Certified in ultrasonic technology by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers.Basic CPR annually

EXPERIENCE

At least one full year of full time experience in clinical radiologic technology including didactic experience equivalent to the curriculum recommended by the American Society of Radiologic Technology or satisfactory completion of another imaging training program or one year clinical experiences in another imaging modality.
