[Communications] Senior Manager, Public Affairs & Patient Advocacy

RESPONSIBILITIES/PRINCIPAL DUTIES:

The Senior Manager, Public Affairs Corporate Communication, JJ IM Japan is a critical leadership role, responsible for accelerating our public affairs and patient advocacy efforts of JJ IM Japan. Working closely with Integrated Market Access (IMAT) , Medical Affairs (MAF) , Asia Pacific (AP) Public Affairs Patient Advocacy(PA), the role will be a key driver of JJ IM Japan’s external stakeholder engagement for policy shaping and patient engagement to shape our operating environment. The newly created role will be a core member of Japan Communication Public Affairs(CPA) Team, directly reporting Head of Japan CPA.

The role will:

Ÿ Develop, lead, and execute innovative public affairs strategies and execution that shape our operating environment and increase patient access to our portfolio of innovative medicines in Japan.

ü Partner with Japan IMAT and MAF to identify, develop and execute Japan public affairs strategies.

ü Work closely with AP Public Affairs and Patient Advocacy to develop scalable public affairs campaign and patient activation initiatives.

ü Serve as strategic counsel to Head of Japan CPA on public affairs challenges and opportunities in Japan

ü Engage and represent the company’s interests with local trade associations and industry bodies

ü Deploy cutting edge ways to measure and track our efforts in the public affairs

ü Develop an on-going body of work that drives forward our thought leadership in areas of market access, pricing, domestic investment, intellectual property and innovation

ü Build trust in society by showcasing on-going novel initiatives in science, policy, corporate social responsibility and our efforts to ensure access to innovative medicines.

ü Develop and maintain strong relationships with critical journalists and media outlets in partnership with our Therapeutic Area communication team members

ü Build, strengthen and create relationships with critical partners, key patient groups, advocates, NGOs, academics etc. to advance our public affairs interests

Ÿ Guide and deploy the investment of our resources to rapidly build and strengthen our teams’ public affairs and patient advocacy capabilities across Japan CPA, collaborating with Regional CPA

ü Help our business partners better understand how public affairs strategies can be utilized and deployed in their businesses

ü Upskill our business partners and senior business leaders to understand what public affairs is and the opportunities best-in-class public affairs capabilities can afford our organization

ü Deploy global/regional training approaches and methodologies to embed public affairs as a core capability of Japan CPA

ü Identify appropriate local agencies and external experts to strengthen our organization’s capabilities in this space

ü Enable the team to move towards an end-state where public affairs is a core competency for appropriate roles across the entire team (not just the domain of specialists)

Ÿ Nurture and develop our emerging patient advocacy capabilities in Japan

ü Have leadership responsibility for our patient advocacy efforts in Japan

ü Partner closely with MAF, key marketing and commercial excellence leadership to champion the role of the patient voice in driving our decision making and strategy

ü Champion the voice of patients across all forums within the company – helping bring the outside in, and identify opportunities for our teams to interact more frequently and meaningfully with patient advocates

Ÿ Actively represent Japan and engage with local and regional teams across Johnson Johnson

ü Serve as an active and engaged member of Japan CPA Team – building a strong function across team

ü Work across sector lines in to communicate powerfully as one Johnson Johnson at key opportunities that include policy shaping, key partnership with government officials, academia, patient groups and NGO/NPO etc,.

ü Represent Japan at regional forums and on regional projects as required

ü Be hands-on, multitasking, and managing all necessary resources including PR agencies, budgets, team resource allocation and quality control.

Requirements

Ÿ Bachelor’s degree and above; advanced degree preferred

Ÿ 8-12 years working experience in public affairs and media relations or government officials

Ÿ Strong public affairs experience required

Ÿ Healthcare industry experience preferred

Ÿ Proactive attitude to identify and address opportunities

Ÿ Strategic thinker with ability to develop robust strategies to shape our operating environment – as well as our capabilities as a team to do so

Ÿ Flawless English written, verbal and visual communication skills is a must

Ÿ Exceptional communication and coordination skills in a complex organization with proven success navigating among multiple stakeholders

Ÿ Demonstrated project management skills and the ability to independently manage multiple projects simultaneously across geographies and time zones

Ÿ Proven leadership skills
