[TEMP] Driver / Material Handler III
SUMMARY: Under the direct supervision of the Warehouse Manager, Driver / Material Handlers are responsible for the movement of material goods, acting as a spotter, and developing the skills needed in order to operate a commercial motor vehicle for the day-to-day transportation of merchandise, and mail between retail stores, attended donation sites, and other Goodwill of the Finger Lakes locations. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: + Handles all aspects of effective and timely transportation of donations, salvage, credentials, new goods, and any other materials in accordance with established guidelines: + Loads, unloads, and transports inventory to and from the warehouse and retail locations. + Knows all delivery routes to provide coverage when other personnel are absent + Driving assigned routes as established or requested by leadership, routes periodically rotate to maintain flexibility. + When acting as a spotter, is point of contact with logistics and leadership for communication while vehicle is in motion; and + Completes daily required paperwork (e.g. forklift pre-operational safety inspection, vehicle logs, maintenance reports, etc.) in an accurate and timely manner, in accordance with policies and procedures. + Observes and maintains Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and requirements: + Adheres to all DOT received training involving and operation requirements. + Demonstrate core competencies as identified in DOT road test. + Maintains the assigned Organization vehicle(s): + Complete daily pre and post trip inspections. + Includes general maintenance and affiliated record keeping, to ensure its safe operation; + Keeps daily records of trips, recording mileage and times in and out; + Performs routine maintenance checks such as, but not limited to, fluid levels, lights and brakes, to ensure safe operation; + Reports all needed repairs to supervisor + Participates in appropriate driver safety programs. + Maintains processing area and assigned vehicle in a neat, clean, and organize condition at all times. Completes regularly scheduled cleanings, in accordance with organization’s policies and procedures; and + Report incidents, vehicle defects, traffic violations, or damage to vehicles (Forklift, CMV) before and after route in a timely manner. Including equipment repairs and/or maintenance to leaders in a timely manner. + Removes incoming container to baler staging area; + Transfer materials from storage truck to baler; + Loads and operates baler according to established procedures; + Unloads completed bales according to established procedures and places in holding areas; + Moves bales from holding area to bale storage area; + Transfer bales to tractor trailer from bale storage area using material handling equipment; + Maintains bale storage area according to guidelines; + Moves Gaylord containers to donated goods storage area. + Maintains a friendly, customer service attitude. Greets donors in a pleasant, professional manner; provides donation receipts upon request. + Use of safe work procedures and personal protective equipment as required. (E.g. lifting, use of proper equipment, etc.). Reports hazards, incidents and injuries in a timely manner to the immediate supervisor. + Ensures effective and timely transportation of merchandise/salvage and supplies in accordance with established guidelines: + Remains trained in all aspects of equipment/material handling safety procedures according to organization guidelines. + Ensures the safe and efficient movement of materials related to the donated goods program: + Maintains donated goods inventory storage area floor plan according to organization guidelines; + Contributes to the overall effectiveness of the Donated Goods Center by remaining cross‑trained on all other retail store back room operations and performing all other tasks as assigned. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or GED preferred. Minimum of one years’ experience driving a large commercial vehicle; prior material/equipment handling experience preferred. LICENSE Must have a valid New York State Class A Driver's License, with a good driving record, as approved by the Organization’s insurance company. Clean and safe driving history as identified with a MVR. Must maintain DOT physical card attached to license via the DMV. LANGUAGE SKILLS: + Ability to read and understand documents such as time cards and policy manuals. + Ability to speak effectively and communicate clearly to other employees and customers. PHYSICAL DEMANDS While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to operate the baler, run the pallet truck and hydraulic lift; and stoop, kneel, crouch or bend in order to load and empty containers. Regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. When operating the listed equipment, the following specific vision abilities are recommended for safety reasons: close vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
