Our team
The Governance Office in the Executive and Legal Services (ELS) Department contributes to the development, growth or delivery of corporate strategies, policies, programs and services. This team supports the effective functioning of the Board of Directors and its subcommitttes, as well as that of Bank senior management. The Governance team provide secretariat and governance services to the Board of Directors, the Bank’s Executive Council and the Fellowhip Program.

 

What you will do 
As the Senior Assistant Secretary, you oversee the day-to-day operations and provide leadership to a skilled team of three governance professionals. You provide advice to the General Counsel and Corporate Secretary regarding governance practices and requirements. You will plan and manage key processes, ensuring timely and effective discussions on key issues, and prepare agendas and minutes for pivotal governance meetings. By building strong relationships with stakeholders and overseeing critical governance activities, including the biennial off-site Board meeting, you will play a vital role in organizational success. Mentoring and coaching your team, you’ll ensure cross-training and maintain high-quality standards while staying at the forefront of corporate governance practices.

 

What you need to succeed

Strong leadership skills with experience managing and mentoring a team. Expertise in corporate governance and proficiency in critical thinking, withthe ability to develop and communicate advice to senior leadership. Ability to build collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Excellent organizational skills to manage multiple priorities and ensure timely delivery of objectives. Proficiency in preparing high-quality agendas, minutes, and official correspondence. Strategic thinking to interpret terms of reference and demonstrated ability to make recommendations that support decision-making. Strong communication skills to act as a conduit between directors and senior leaders.

 

Nice-to-have 

Familiarity with Crown Corporations or comparable organizations

 

Your education and experience
The position requires a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Law, Governance, or a related field and eight years of experience in corporate governance, secretariat services, or a similar role with a proven track record of managing governance processes and supporting senior leadership teams or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. 

Language requirement
The Bank’s work environment is conducive to the use of both of Canada’s official languages - English and French.  The position language requirement is Level 5 (Fully Functional).  If a qualified candidate who meets the language requirement of the position is not found, a qualified candidate who does not meet the language requirement may be considered. Training may be provided to help reach the required level.  Both bilingual and unilingual candidates are encouraged to apply.

Hybrid Work Model

Salaries are based on qualifications and experience and typically range from $150,707 to $177,302 (job grade 19) The Bank offers an incentive for successfully meeting expectations at  7 to 10% of your base salary. The Bank offers additional performance pay (5%) for those who exceed expectations. Exceptional performers who far exceed expectations may be eligible for higher performance pay.
