About the position 
 We are seeking a Platform Development Leads to join our team! The Automation Tools and Compute Services (ATCS) and Data and Compute groups are multi-disciplinary teams within the Core Technology Services (CTS) portfolio of the Bank’s IT Services (ITS) department. We are passionate about the work we do to help the Bank become digital, ready, and resilient.  Please note, that there are 2 teams hiring right now. 
  
In our team, you will be part of a dynamic and highly skilled group enabling Canada’s Leading Bank to work agilely and securely.  You will have a leading role in assisting the team to move our development practices forward. You will Interface with our Senior Technical Advisor, Principal Consultants, Solutions Architects and Cyber Security Solutions Architects to develop and deploy solutions that enable the Bank of Canada’s Strategic Plan.

As a Platform Development Lead you will be empowered to champion recommendations on processes and technology evolution, along with the opportunity to utilize state-of-the-art solutions and consistently learn as technology in the industry evolves. You will have the support of your leader to enhance your skills, experiment, and drive your career in many ways (certifications, labs, architecture, leadership etc.).   
 
What you will do:    
As the Platform Development Lead, you will be a technical authority and provide input to activities leading to the development and evolution of the Bank’s cloud hosting ecosystems within hybrid cloud delivery models.  
   
Additionally, you will:    

Introduce and champion best in class development techniques including frameworks for automation and testing.   Drive thought leadership, consistent development processes and coding practices across scrum teams.   Collaborate across CTS with various Scrum Teams and projects to help write and maintain infrastructure code using best practice design techniques; help teams develop deep knowledge in application design and architecture.   Collaborate with Project Managers and Scrum Masters to help define and plan technical interdependencies between all operational and project work.   Lead and prioritize initiatives from the product backlog to resolve/mitigate recurring incidents.   Work with product owners to reduce technical debt and improve operational support.   Create and contribute mechanisms to facilitate testing and deployment of code in a timely and effective manner.   Help improve backlog clarity and dev-tool chain development and maintenance processes.   Research, evaluate and make recommendations that support or improve Scrum Team processes.   Estimate capacity, velocity and throughput to enable accurate forecasting.   Provide hands-on development and operational support for the continuous improvement of IaC technical solutions/systems.   Provide production operational support and work with operational support groups to determine the root cause behind critical production incidents and process challenges.  

 
What you need to succeed   
You quickly grasp the essence of complex issues, are self-motivated, require little supervision and function effectively as part of a team. Also, you are an effective communicator, you clearly convey key points, organize content, and write in a style appropriate to the audience and purpose of the document and presentation.   
   
In addition, you have:   

A passion for collaboration / sharing / coaching with your colleagues   A strong IT infrastructure background, and a history demonstrating strong technical skills   Familiarity with Agile and DevOps principles and tools (e.g.: Jira, scrum, etc.)  test-driven development, continuous integration, and other approaches to accelerate the delivery of new features 

 
Specific to the Automation Tools and Compute Services (ATCS) team, you have: 

Expert level experience in programming and/or scripting, e.g.: YAML, Python, Powershell, Javascript or working knowledge in at least one object-oriented programming language (e.g.: Java, C, C#, C++)   An strong understanding of network platforms and internetworking architectures like virtual local area networks (VLANs), routers, switches and network protocols, web service protocols such as REST, SOAP and API design for extensibility and portability as well as XML/JSON data formats   An existing understanding of one or more virtual infrastructure platforms like VMware vSphere, Microsoft Hyper-V, Linux KVM, Azure Kubernetes Services, Azure RedHat Openshift, etc.   Expert level experience with one or more infrastructure automation technologies, e.g.: Ansible Tower, Azure DevOps, VMWare vRealize Suite, Terraform or ServiceNOW workflow automation   

 
Specific to the Data and Compute Platforms team, you have experience with: 

Azure Cloud platform and Azure services, including compute, analytics, storage and networking  Databricks cloud computing and Databricks Lakehouse   Automation and infrastructure-as-code (IaC) including tools such as, Ansible, Packer, Teraform, Pulumi, cloud-init   Containerization of applications in Docker and/or Singularity and deployment of containerized solutions in Docker/Kubernetes environments   Python  Use of Linux operating systems with Fedora (Red Hat, CentOS) or Debian (Ubuntu), including scripting in a shell environment (Bash, etc.) 

 
Assets:   

Exposure to diverse work environments, with a broad understanding of multiple business sectors, hardware and software technologies and IT security.   Understanding of ITSM processes and principles / proficiency in ServiceNow.   Experience with migrating workloads to/from cloud/on-prem datacentre locations.   A high degree of comfort with API-driven integration, understanding of different integration strategies and patterns, and a keen understanding of loosely coupled but tightly integrated technologies within a cloud hosting ecosystem.  

   
Your education and experience   
Your combined education and work experience demonstrate that you have the proficiencies and skills for the role. We are ideally seeking candidates with eight years experience with a college diploma in a related field; or seven years experience with a bachelor's degree in a related field; or equivalent combination of experience.  

 

Language requirement
The Bank’s work environment is conducive to the use of both of Canada’s official languages - English and French. Although the position language requirement is English or French essential, we do encourage everyone to improve second their language proficiency for future career growth and to contribute towards fostering a bilingual environment.

Hybrid Work Model

The Bank offers work arrangements that provide employees with flexibility, enable high-performing teams, and support an excellent workplace culture. Most employees can telework from home for a substantial part of each month as part of the Bank`s hybrid work model, and they are expected on site at the Bank location a minimum of eight days per month to help build connections between colleagues. You must live in Canada, and within reasonable commuting distance of the office.

Salaries are based on qualifications and experience and typically range from $124,279 to $146,211 (job grade 18) The Bank offers an incentive for successfully meeting expectations at  7 to 10% of your base salary. The Bank offers additional performance pay (5%) for those who exceed expectations. Exceptional performers who far exceed expectations may be eligible for higher performance pay.
