PURPOSE:  This is a safety sensitive position. Position supports the Liquor Manager with wine, beer and spirits education and marketing efforts by assisting in the development, communication and execution of basic programs. Provides VIP treatment to customers. Communicates and monitors promotional and merchandising plans, new programs and training. Responsible for planning and organizing requisitions; serving beer, wine or spirits for public tasting and information/education purposes and providing tastings and educational seminars for in-store events (where allowed by law).

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

Assist the Liquor Supervisor in planning, directing, implementing and monitoring beer, wine and spirits merchandising programs. Discuss beer, wine and spirit products with customers and assist with selection and food pairings. Maintain and build customer relations, and encourage special orders and return business. Plan and organize beer, wine and spirits tastings and seminars to educate customers and employees to increase awareness and meet sales goals. Manage and assure proper displaying and selling of all beer, wine and spirits products to customers and advise customers on quality, method of handling, and other factors affecting the product. Maintain the appropriate profit margin in accordance to the approved pre-set budget, which entails, but is not limited to: sales goals, cost of goods, expenses, price changes and product selection. Manage the requisitioning, receiving, storing and inventorying of wine, beer and spirits product. Maintain inventory and order to replenish stock. Concentrate efforts on staying in-stock with optimal back stock. Practice, promote, and instill appropriate customer service as well as work ethic. Provide subject matter expertise on the current merchandising and promotions process including but not limited to weekly ads, price changes, merchandising and product selection. Other duties as assigned by the Liquor Supervisor, including ordering and stocking product.
 

JOB REQUIREMENTS
Relevant experience, education, certification, knowledge, skills and abilities

5+ years’ related wine, beer and spirits field or relevant business experience with a solid understanding of marketing, merchandising, consumer research and financial management practices required. Kept up to date and abreast of the latest trends and developments in the industry. Previous store operations experience with an understanding of wine, beer and spirits sales and merchandising. Ability to read and interpret profit and loss statement and understand how it is affected by the categories managed. Strong planning, organizing, and problem diagnosis and resolution skills. Good verbal and communication skills. Good interpersonal skills to interact effectively with customers, vendors and other employees. Strong technical and computer networking skills to engage customers on line. Must qualify to handle and sell beer, wine and spirits. Knowledge of local laws and company policies on sale of beer, wine and spirits. Other duties as assigned by the Liquor Supervisor or store management

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Incumbent may stand for long periods of time. Stooping, bending, twisting, reaching and working in refrigerated coolers (to 35 degrees) to stock merchandise is required for completion of job duties. Climbing ladders to stack merchandise and hang signs. Must be able to lift 50 lbs. Incumbent may use calculators, computers, telephone, and other office equipment in the course of normal workday.
