Position Summary

The maintenance worker is responsible for the upkeep and cleanliness of the entire facility including repairs and ensuring equipment is safe to operate at all times under the direction of the Maintenance Manager.

Essential Functions

Handles necessary repairs and maintenance. Install equipment and appliances. Follows local and state building codes. Complies with all company safety regulations. Keeps a maintenance log and writes shift reports. Reports any issues to the maintenance manager. Responds to repair and maintenance requests in a timely fashion. Loads and unloads equipment and tools into work vehicles if needed. Follow written and verbal instructions from the maintenance manager. Perform janitorial services when needed such as cleaning and restocking restrooms. Strip, wax, and polish floors with floor machines Collaborates with the maintenance team and contractors as needed. Reads and follows manuals, blueprints, and other written instructions. Uses equipment, including power tools, hand tools, electric tools, and plumbing tools. Maintain the grounds of required gardening services Check all program areas for potential health and safety problems or violations. Electrical troubleshooting and repair. Plumbing troubleshooting and repair with augers, drain snakes, and drain cleaners. Install and repair toilets, sinks, faucets, and shower valves. Perform drywall repairs and installation.

Working Conditions

Must be able to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis. Must be able to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinet drawers, and reach overhead. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs

Due to licensing requirements, all employees/candidates for employment must be fully vaccinated and have booster shot or accept booster shot within 15 days of eligibility, unless they have an official exemption approved by The Salvation Army.  This position requires employee to be vaccinated and have a booster shot against Covid-19 or to provide an approved exemption request form.  Employees with exemptions must be tested for COVID-19 on a weekly basis and must provide a written copy of their test results per compliance regulations.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum of 3 years’ experience in the building maintenance field Valid Class C Driver’s License Forklift Certification a plus. High school diploma or GED Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and Health Department Standards. Experience working with the homeless population and people with addiction/alcohol problems preferred, not mandatory. CPR and First Aid certification a must. TB-cleared prior to start date.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

Communication skills both oral and written a plus Ability to carry out our assignments independently and good time management skills. Abel to safely use manual and/or power tools. Service-minded and able to function in a multi-facility environment. Ability to please orders and calculate inventories for production. Must have a strong sense of workplace ethics and understanding of confidentiality protocols. Must be able to work any shift and a signed schedule.
