Job Description
This contract Electrical Engineer 2 position supports both the Facilities Engineering (TENF) and Telecommunications (TENP) groups within the Transmission Services (T) business line at BPA. The engineer will conduct system analysis, design, review, and check electrical designs by internal engineers or external Architecture & Engineering (AE) firms for electrical systems at BPA substations and telecommunications sites. The role includes coordinating and facilitating all building electrical systems, including lighting, circuits, panels, wiring, HVAC, fire alarm systems, security systems, communication systems, emergency power systems, engine generators, and electrical gates.
ResponsibilitiesPoint of Contact: Serve as the subject matter expert for BPA’s buildings and building systems.Facilities: Include substation control houses, telecommunication buildings, and other Transmission system supporting facilities (e.g., O&M buildings).Work Scope: Site assessments, planning, design, and design submittal review. Assist COR with RFIs, construction field inspection, and project closeout.Electrical Support: Provide engineering and design support for building electrical systems (50V – 240V), including distribution transformers, panelboards, lighting systems, and conduit/cabling systems.Design Review: Review and check electrical design drawings and specifications by AE contractors.Technical Expertise: Design and review AE submittals for building alarm systems, engine generators, HVAC systems, and gas detectors.Consultation: Provide technical reviews and consultation to ensure compliance with industry codes and BPA standards.Analysis: Conduct station service load flow, arc flash studies, and short circuit analyses for 50V – 480V systems.Problem Solving: Identify and analyze issues with low voltage electrical systems.Compliance: Apply industry codes and standards for electrical systems and equipment.Technical Input: Provide recommendations for electrical engineering requirements and design parameters for building facility equipment.Site Visits: Verify existing low voltage electrical conditions at BPA sites.Documentation: Maintain and mark documents in compliance with INFOSEC and IGLM standards.
RequirementsEducation: Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an ABET accredited school.Experience:5 years of work-related experience in electrical engineering.5 years of experience with low and medium voltage systems design and engineering.Knowledge of power systems, power distribution, and utilization.Experience with transformers, panelboards, standby engine-generators, motors, lighting systems, fire alarm systems, cabling, and grounding.Skills:Understanding of Electrical Safety Standards and code requirements (NESC).Familiarity with the National Electrical Code (NEC).Knowledge of industry standards (NFPA, IEEE, ANSI).Communication: Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally.
Preferred Skills & ExperienceTechnical Studies: Familiarity with electrical system short circuit and arc flash studies.Communication: Effective communication skills for briefings, reports, and correspondence.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $50.00
