Position Summary


To lead swim lessons for students of all ages and abilities based on Kroc Center Learn to Swim curriculum, instructing
students on swimming technique as well as general water safety protocol.

Essential Functions


• To know, explain and exemplify the mission, purpose, and values of the Kroc Center and The Salvation Army (TSA).
• Provide swim instruction to students of all ages (parent & child; youth & adult lessons) and ability levels.
• Instruct swim lessons based on establish Kroc Center Learn to Swim Curriculum.
• Ensure appropriate preparation for each class session, including preparation of rosters & all teaching materials.
• Effectively communicate water safety guidelines to students, using multiple tactics to ensure comprehension.
• Assess student swim abilities, providing feedback and recommendations for continued work, as appropriate.
• Communicate student swim progress to parent/ guardians, provide recommendations for further development.
• Collect student & parent evaluations, as assigned.
• Assist other Aquatics personnel with response to incidents and injuries, completing all necessary paperwork.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Attend staff meetings as assigned.

Working Conditions


• Must be able to lift & carry 40lbs.
• Meet all health and safety regulations as defined by Health Department & The Salvation Army.
• Must be in good physical and mental health, capable of meeting the high demands of aquatics department.

Minimum Qualifications


• Must be at least 16 years
• Must possess and maintain current certificates in American Red Cross First Aid, CPR, and AED, or obtain after hire.
• Experience leading small groups of children;
understanding of basic child development
philosophy preferred.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities


• Knowledge of principles and techniques of aquatic
instruction and coaching.
• Ability to communicate effectively; ability to
interact with co-workers, management, leadership, and the general public in a positive, productive manner.
• Ability to function in a fast-paced, frequently
changing environment.
• Ability to read, write, and communicate well in
English required; bilingual English/Spanish
preferred.
