ReproMail is the City and County of San Francisco's central printing and mailing facility offering services to all City Departments. All ReproMail employees are cross-trained to partake in all areas of production and delivery.

Appointment Type: Temporary Exempt - As-Needed position is excluded by the Charter from the competitive civil service examination process and shall serve at the discretion of the appointment officer
The Print/Mail Machine Operator operates multiple printing, bindery and/or mailing equipment. This is the journey-level class of the series.
Essential duties are, but are not limited to:
1. Operates, sets up and adjusts printing, mailing and bindery equipment. Sets up and operates a digital printing press, to transfer files, blend colors, and proof images electronically. Performs a variety of duties that may include reading job specifications, preparing paper, document scanning, transferring source (physical or electronic) to machine, ripping files produced from static and variable data files, adjusting machine settings, loading and unloading of paper, and stacking/labeling finished product.
+ Sets up and operates various mailroom equipment, such as sorter, inserters, meter machines, tabbing machines, labeling machine. Performs a variety of duties that may preparing USPS statements. Adjusts machine settings, loads and unloads paper.
2. Maintains machines in good working order by cleaning, greasing and oiling; performs minor repairs when necessary; keeps work and storage areas orderly.
3. Checks and reviews a variety of documents for completeness and accuracy.
+ Proofs the printing orders for accuracy.
+ Follows pre-established quality control procedures
+ Consistently checks the print quality during the production run.
+ Checks the packing slips for the materials ordered.
+ Carefully checks the job order forms for correct production information.
+ Records and reports progress of work.
+ Knowledge of USPS rules and regulations pertaining to ReproMail operations.
4. Performs related duties as required.
+ Inventories and requests paper and other supplies.
+ Assists with the front counter support as needed.
+ Checks the voicemail when the light is on.
+ Checks the e-mail at least three times a day.
+ Lifts boxes up to 50 lbs.
+ Occasionally works overtime during evenings and weekend
5. May be required to drive in order to transport materials.
Experience:
Two (2) years of recent experience in the operation of an offset machine and/or high speed digital production printer (including bindery) in a reprographic or production center environment.
Desirable Qualifications:
1. Possess a California Driver's License, Class C, in order to transport materials.
2. Ability to lift 50lbs, as this position requires physical effort and manual dexterity in the operation and maintenance of high speed digital or other related equipment

Compensation Range: $73,346-$89,128 annually
