Job Summary
In Systems Integration and Test (SI&T) we integrate, verify, and validate our products. We put our systems together, exercise them in the lab or in the field, measure and analyze performance, and make sure our products work the first time and every time. To accomplish this, we develop plans and procedures, debug and evaluate system functions and interfaces, develop test environments, and work hand-in-hand with our customers.
The Additive Manufacturing Lab within our Bike Shop Department in Tucson, Arizona is looking for a Mechanical Engineering student to support our team as an intern. In this role, you’ll be challenged to design, build, and integrate additively manufactured parts. You will work with a multi-disciplinary team and different programs to create practical solutions to engineering problems by taking customer feedback, requirements, specifications and using this to prototype using additive manufacturing. Additionally, you will work other aspects of an Additive Lab including and not limited to, customer communication, project management, machine maintenance/upkeep, and various post-processing applications..

This position can be a Sophomore, Junior, Senior, or Post Graduate Technical Intern based on the candidate's qualifications and standing as outlined below:
(Sophomore Technical Intern) - must be enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program and classified as a Sophomore by start of internship and provide proof of graduation prior to first day of employment(Junior Technical Intern) - must be enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program and classified as a Junior by start of internship and provide proof of graduation prior to first day of employment(Senior Technical Intern)- must be enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program and classified as a Senior by start of internship and provide proof of graduation prior to first day of employment(Post-Graduate Technical Intern) - must have an undergraduate degree and be enrolled in a graduate degree program (in degree fields listed in Qualifications You Must Have) by start of internshipWhat You Will Do
Work on several efforts involving large additive projects, lab/process improvement, or working on other additive projects across Tucson.Translate complex assemblies and non-CAD models into printable parts.Perform Computer Aided Design (CAD) of parts and assemblies utilizing Design for Additive Manufacturing with emphasis on manufacturability. Modify existing assemblies, produce molds, ensure parts are printable, etc.Working on projects as directed by shop lead to establish a bill of materials, working under various budget sizes, inter-shop coordination, ensuring deadlines are met, customer relations, complex assembly/integration/testing/etc.Assist shop with machine diagnostics and repairs (electrical, mechanical, etc.)Qualifications You Must Have
This position is for an intern who is enrolled in a Bachelor’s (or higher) in Mechanical Engineering degree program and will be at minimum, entering their Sophomore year by the start of summer 2025Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance prior to start date. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.Academic or internship experience that includes mechanical design and fabrication experience.Experience with troubleshooting technical issues with 3D printers in a personal, academic, or internship setting.Experience with CAD software such as CREO, or similar.Qualifications We Prefer
Prior Internship experience in an engineering role supporting mechanical engineering design and using various software tools such as: Creo, ANSYS, Solidworks, AutoCAD or equivalent.Experience designing, modifying, fabricating, and testing 3D printed parts.Cross disciplinary fabrication experience such as: machining, electrical, composites, or others.Prior internship or academic experience leading projects.Onsite: Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance employees, as they are essential to the development of our products.

The salary range for this role is 37,000 USD - 82,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
