In addition, the internship program allows students to grow both professionally and personally through interactions with research and business professionals in support of projects aligned with department initiatives. Students will learn and work under a practicing professional who will provide guidance and mentorship.

Evidence Generation, Medical Affairs

Summary:

Medical Evidence Generation provides clinically relevant data that increases confidence with clinicians and patients in the expected benefits and risk of treatment with Ionis’ medicines and facilitates treatment and better health for all appropriate patients. A 2025 intern on our team will have the opportunity to work cross-functionally on several evidence generation projects across therapeutic areas. The intern will have the opportunity to learn about and leverage a wide array of publicly available resources and internal databases. Further, he/she will have opportunities to join team activities and meetings with the Medical Evidence Generation team and our cross-functional partners, such as Clinical Development, Market Access, Portfolio Planning, Market Insights and Health Economics and Outcomes Research.

Responsibilities:

Search the literature (including non-traditional sources) for epidemiological studies on conditions of interest to Ionis and summarize these studies – The intern will use search tools including, but not limited to, Embase, PubMed and Google Scholar to conduct literature searches; Abstract identified data elements in a systematic fashion; Curate articles; Add relevant information to Ionis’ Epi Hub  Participate in study design for registries and other Medical Affairs studies – The intern will provide background research needed to inform studies; Review and/or develop data elements for these studies; Provide input into study methodology Intern project - The intern will conduct a study using existing literature or real-world data, including study design, analyses and reporting and presenting results during the summer intern period.

Requirements: 

MUST be currently enrolled in a U.S. Graduate Degree Program (Masters or Doctoral) with a focus on health outcomes research, biostatistics, or epidemiology and not graduating prior to the completion of the Ionis internship. MUST be able to begin internship between 6/9 and 6/16/2025 MUST be able and willing to remain in the program through at least 8/15/2025 MUST be able and willing to commit to a minimum 40-hour work week This internship is a remote position, with the opportunity to spend some time at Ionis HQ in Carlsbad, CA

The pay scale for this position is $18 to $23 per hour.
