What you can expect in this role

As a Spectrum Intern, you’ll be essential to two teams — your respective department and your Intern peer group. Department and team-focused projects account for about 80% of your schedule. You’ll spend the other 20% on professional development sessions and networking activities, including the Kickoff Conference on May 28th, webinars, community service, cross-functional project, and final presentations.

Internship responsibilities may include

Sourcing projects – As an intern, you will be afforded the opportunity to work independently and within a team on different projects to leverage your knowledge while also being exposed to many procurement roles.  Some key activities include:

RFx – Procurement will look to engage the intern in an RFx process where they collaborate with a Procurement Manager through requirements gathering, RFx issuance, negotiations, analysis, and award. This will provide a look into Charter’s procurement process, allowing them to think strategically throughout the process and provide them the opportunity to bring new ideas and perspective.Improving Reporting and Analysis Capabilities – Service contracts are implemented across all business units without a central repository of rate card information.  The intern will collect negotiated and contracted rates for service and materials and consolidate this information in a way that allows for competitive benchmarking, performance management, and pricing comparison across regions and business units.Assessment/Validation of Contract rates – With the large number of contracts across the organization, discrepancies between what is stated in our contracts and what is listed on purchase orders to vendors occasionally occur. Auditing and identifying these discrepancies is crucial in ensuring that we are not overpaying for services. The intern will analyze invoice data from key suppliers to ensure compliance with contracted terms. Technology Sourcing – An advantage of working at Charter is that we have cutting edge technology and supply chain needs to support our business operations. Participation in sourcing and vendor management activities across the department, will provide an opportunity to understand different procurement specialization opportunities while contributing to operational needs.

Department Collaboration / Organization Management – The Procurement department at Charter is a large organization made up of several teams with different personnel and priorities.  The leadership team has created a structure and tools to standardize the onboarding process for new team members and facilitate collaboration and awareness across the department.

New Employee Onboarding Materials – The interns will facilitate activities to refine and augment the new employee information including gathering inputs from team members, consolidation of materials, and assisting with the communication plan.Cross-functional Standardization – As the department moves to enhanced collaboration tools for document sharing and retention, the intern will work with the Standardization team to manage updates to the new SharePoint sites and assist with managing document transfers and setting up library and site information. Early Hire Development – The intern will manage updates and communication across the leadership team for materials supporting training and development of new team members.
