Department Summary

Oligonucleotide development group (ODG) within MCM is a product/process development team based in Branchburg NJ that supports manufacturing operations. ODG’s focus is development of oligonucleotide synthesis and purification methods to be used in commercial production. The team looks to simplify processes through automation where possible.   In addition, the team evaluates methodology and instrumentation to ensure that current and future oligonucleotide development and manufacturing demands are fulfilled for the Roche’s Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) based Diagnostics products. 

This internship position is located in Branchburg, NJ and the internship is ONSITE

The Opportunity

The focus of the summer intern will be in assisting the development activities of process optimization / improvements, process scale up and automation in the of oligonucleotide production for existing and new products. This will include assisting in oligonucleotide production and characterization by HPLC/UPLC, LCMS, and UV-Vis.

The intern will be assisting/performing the experiments in the lab under the guidance of a mentor, documenting the experimental results and will share the findings within the team.

The intern will also take part in the group meetings between R&D, process development and manufacturing teams across multiple sites and may share the experimental results and feedback as required.

Program Highlights

Intensive 12-weeks , full time (40 hours per week) paid internship.

Program start dates are in  May/June (Summer)

A stipend, based on location, will be provided to help alleviate costs associated with the internship.

Ownership of challenging and impactful business-critical projects.

Who You Are (Required)

Required Education:  You meet the following criteria:

 Must be pursuing a Bachelor's Degree (enrolled student) 

 Completed at least 2 years of college/university to be eligible for the program.

 Must have a ≥ 3.0 GPA

Required majors:  Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, Chemical engineering or related field.

Required skills:

Previous research or process development experience in the industry/academia.

Understanding/experience in programming

Strong understanding of scientific principles and GLP

Preferred Qualifications

Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.

Understanding of Chemical/DNA synthesis

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of  New Jersey is $25-$33 hour.  Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. This position also qualifies for paid holiday time off benefit.
