The Summer @ Roche Intern Program has been developed to provide students with a fun yet rewarding summer through hands-on experience and numerous opportunities to network with other interns as well as employees in the organization. Additionally, we help our students meet their career development and educational goals while potentially building a future with the Roche organization. The Pathology Work Area Instrument Development team employs diversified knowledge of mechanical, electrical, software and systems engineering principles to design and develop complex medical device systems involving hardware, chemicals and reagents. After understanding user needs, use cases & requirements, the engineering teams develop complex plastics and software controlled electromechanical prototypes using analytical and simulation tools. The prototypes are taken through various stages of the phased-gate product development process before the engineering and scientific solutions get deployed.
This internship position is located in Tucson, AZ, on-site.
The Opportunity
Conducting study on various custom equipment to gather characterization data.
Performance / Process optimization via hands-on experimentation.
Work in lab environment, employ GLP (Good Laboratory Practice) and electronic Lab Notebook.
Characterization of multiple materials and chemicals.
Predict potential interaction issues by using analytical, instrumentation and simulation tools.
Program Highlights
Intensive 12-weeks, full-time (40 hours per week) paid internship.
Program start dates are in May/June 2025.
A stipend, based on location, will be provided to help alleviate costs associated with the internship.
Ownership of challenging and impactful business-critical projects.
Work with some of the most talented people in the biotechnology industry.
Who You Are (Required)
Required Education
You meet one of the following criteria:
Must be pursuing a Bachelor's Degree (enrolled student)
Must be pursuing a Master's Degree (enrolled student)
Required Majors: Biomedical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering.
Required Skills:
Currently enrolled in an accredited college/university during the program calendar year 2025.
Must have a ≥3.0 GPA. Please attach a copy of your transcript in order to be considered for this internship opportunity.
Minimum availability of 12 weeks.
Previous experience in the job duties listed, either through course work or industry/academia.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications
Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.

Knowledge of common and specialized materials such as thermoplastics, metals, coatings, composites, elastomers, fluoropolymers and adhesives used within the industry for fluidics systems.
Participation in student organizations and/or other leadership experience.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of Arizona is $22.00-$35.00 per hour. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. This position also qualifies for paid holiday time off benefits.
