Department Summary

This position is within the Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) team, receiving guidance from SHE Program Owners. The SHE team is responsible for overall SHE compliance for the Bay Area Roche sites (Santa Clara, Pleasanton and San Jose).  

This internship position is located in Santa Clara, CA, with the need to also travel to the Pleasanton and San Jose, CA site as needed , on site

The Opportunity

Support projects to streamline processes and identify efficiency gains in support of the Hazardous Waste program - some projects include build website for lab users to obtain waste labels easily, creating and implementing roll out the new website to lab users and identify process for managing our paper vendor SDS

Build a process to maintain/improve our staging areas for re-use/donation equipment in support of our company Sustainability goals - building inventory, identifying vendors to take our equipment

Support the scope and inventory in Santa Clara for various SHE Programs - storm drains, confined spaces, fire hydrants, PIVs, air handlers, grease trap, etc.

Support the transition from the R2D2 program to the BioLink platform by conducting a structured review of lab equipment, identifying unused or outdated items, and ensuring proper documentation and disposal. Key responsibilities include:

Review lab inventory to identify redundant or outdated equipment, assess and identify equipment for potential reuse, donation, or disposal.

Ensure all functional equipment is logged into BioLink before removal.

Coordinate with certified e-waste disposal companies for responsible recycling.

Develop and maintain accurate records of inventory reductions, donations, and disposals.

Communicate with lab personnel and facilities teams to facilitate smooth transitions.

Program Highlights

Intensive 12-weeks, full time (40 hours per week) paid internship.

Program start dates are in May/June

A stipend, based on location, will be provided to help alleviate costs associated with the internship. 

Ownership of challenging and impactful business-critical projects.

Work with some of the most talented people in the biotechnology industry. 

Who You Are (Required)

Required Education

Must be pursuing a Bachelor's Degree (enrolled student).

Required Majors: Environmental, Health & Safety such as but not limited to - Public Health, Environmental Management, Occupational Health.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Qualifications:

Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.

Relocation benefits are not available for this job posting.

The expected salary for this position based on the primary location of California is $45 hour.  Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. This position also qualifies for paid holiday time off benefits.
