Job Description

The Biotransformation function is a part of Takeda’s Absorption Distribution Metabolism Excretion (ADME) team. This team investigates how a drug is converted into metabolites, what metabolites are produced from a drug, and elimination pathway of a drug in animals and humans. The data generated informs major human metabolites for safety, efficacy, and drug-drug interaction assessment.

The intern will:

Generate an uncommon metabolite of an FDA approved drug in in vitro systemsSupport efforts through which the metabolite will be isolated by HPLC and subject to NMR characterization. The metabolite structure will be elucidated using the LC-MS and NMR data. The formation mechanism of the metabolite will be proposed based on the structure.Identify the enzyme contributing to the formation of the metabolite. The findings will eventually be written as a scientific manuscript for publication.

Internship Development Opportunities:

The intern will learn how the drug metabolite is generated in the lab. The intern will also learn to use modern analytical techniques including state-of-the-art LC-HRMS and NMR to characterize a metabolite and perform reaction phenotyping of the metabolite generation.

Job Requirements:

This position will be Fully Onsite and require 4+ days in the Cambridge office per week.Must be a Graduate student pursuing their Ph.D. degree in drug metabolism, chemistry, biochemistry, or life science field Hands-on experience on HPLC analysis is required.Experience on qualitative analysis/structure elucidation for small molecules using LC-HRMS and NMR is preferred.Experience with microsomal incubation is preferred.The candidate should have strong organic knowledge background.Basic understanding of computer skills including MS Office (PowerPoint, Words, Excel)Internet skills including use of e-mails, group messaging and information gatheringHighly reliable and a strong team playerFlexible with an attention to detailStrong verbal and written communication skills

Internship Eligibility

Must be authorized to work in the U.S. on a permanent basis without requiring sponsorshipMust be currently enrolled in a degree program graduating December 2025 or laterThe internship program is 10-12 weeks depending on the two start dates (June 2nd- August 22nd) or (June 16th - August 29th)The intern must be able to commit to one of these time framesAble to work full time 40 hours a week during internship datesTakeda does not provide a housing stipend or relocation support for the U.S Summer Internship Program

U.S. Hourly Wage Range:

$21.00 - $46.00

The estimated hourly range reflects an anticipated range for this position. The actual hourly wage offered will depend on the candidate’s school year/level to be entered following completion of internship.  The actual hourly wage offered will be in accordance with state or local minimum wage requirements for the job location.
