Position Summary Full-Time Day Shift $15.25 - $20.42

Performs a variety of tasks and services directed at maintaining the functional mobility of patients, including assistance with ambulation, wheelchair propulsion, and activities that support these functions.  Provides cares appropriate to the age of patients served, reports and records observations, and performs all duties in accordance with established policies and procedures.

Illustrative tasks and expectations include, but are not limited to, the following: Activity: Assists with patient’s activities using proper body mechanics Assists health care team with the mobilization of patients, demonstrating consistent judgment and initiative to maximize safety under the activity orders as indicated by the physician Provides safe interventions with patients including transfers out of bed, repositioning in bed, ambulation with or without assistive devices including, but not limited to canes, walkers, and wheelchairs Elimination: Assists with toileting of patients as needed during patient care Records output Documentation: Records activities completed in the medical record Completes department tracking /scheduling system data Performs and documents monitoring procedures; observes and reports the patient response. Illustrative tasks and expectations include, but are not limited to, the following:

 

Obtains and documents vital signs, such as blood pressure (B/P), heart rate (HR), and oxygen saturation (O2 sats). Maintains open channel of communication with therapists, nurses, peers and supervisors, demonstrating appropriate interpersonal skills and teamwork. Observes and reports unusual conditions and/or change in patient behavior or appearance. Maintains safety and security of patient/family/self/others, observing safety precautions and promoting a sense of security and well-being. Illustrative tasks and expectations include but are not limited to the following: Follows standard precautions. Always washes hands between patients, reports equipment malfunctions. Assists in keeping patient rooms/corridors free of clutter. Cleans fluid spills. Positions side rails appropriate to the patient’s condition; applies and maintains restraining devices as directed. Interacts with patients/visitors/others in a courteous and respectful manner, fully explains procedures to patients/families prior to performing. Assures patient privacy/rights/confidentiality. Recognizes and reports patient concerns; offers constructive solutions. Promotes efficient and effective functioning of the unit/hospital. Illustrative tasks and expectations include but are not limited to, the following: Complies with established policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Assists in data collection, structuring and organization of data utilizing Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point. Consistently utilizes time and resources effectively and efficiently. Maintains cleanliness of unit, service area and equipment. Cooperates with all members of the healthcare team. Enthusiastically supports and participates in planned changes. Accepts responsibility for accurate and timely completion of tasks as assigned. Adheres to MHS Behavioral Standards. Performs additional unit specific tasks/care elements for which they have received specific instruction and demonstrated competence.

Required Experience

Education:

High school diploma or GED required.

Experience:

A minimum of one year of healthcare related experience is required; bachelor’s degree in a healthcare related field may be considered in lieu of experience.
