2nd Shift Mechanic Manager - Prototype Build Operations
Position Overview International has an exciting opportunity for a 2nd Shift Mechanic Manager - Prototype Build Operations at the Advance Technology Center located just south of San Antonio Texas. The 2nd Shift Mechanic Manager - Prototype Build Operations will directly supervise mechanics responsible for building prototype test vehicles to deliver vehicle builds on time to a high quality, and meeting engineering requirements. They will also have dotted line responsibility for the entire on-site 2nd shift R&D staff, including testing techs, fabricators, maintenance techs, and warehouse personnel. They will be the single point of contact for all 2nd shift team members. The 2nd Shift Mechanic Manager will directly manage a team of mechanics responsible for executing prototype vehicle builds. They will establish workload priority for the team. They will guide development of daily build plans for execution by mechanics. They will work cross functionally across product development, and supporting functions, to execute the appropriate build procedures and to remove roadblocks. Additionally, the candidate will communicate build status across levels, either in person or virtually. Responsibilities Overall management of 2nd shift personnel. Ensures departments have proper support based on program priorities. Ensure deliverables are on time, meeting requirements, and within budget. Run the day-to-day operations of the site’s 2nd shift. Recruits, interviews, and hires new staff. Trains and develops employees on performance, sets employee performance objectives, and conducts performance reviews. Ensure activities meet ISO 9001 requirements. Keep areas clean and organized using 5S strategies. Supports planning and implementation of capital projects to ensure groups capabilities meet future needs. Help with the vehicle builds. Other tasks as assigned. Minimum Requirements Bachelor's degree At least 6 years of production/manufacturing/operations experience 1 year lead experience OR Master's degree At least 4 years of production/manufacturing/operations experience 1 year lead experience OR At least 8 years of production/manufacturing/operations experience 1 year lead experience Additional Requirements Qualified candidates, excluding current International Motors employees, must be legally authorized on an unrestricted basis (US Citizen, Legal Permanent Resident, Refugee or Asylee) to be employed in the United States. International Motors does not anticipate providing employment related work sponsorship for this position (e.g., H-1B status) Desired Skills Applicable experience in the heavy truck/automotive industry, familiarity with assembly and repair processes. Proven experience managing mechanics and skilled trade technicians. Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate. Communication skills for overseeing staff and working with other management personnel. Able to clearly and concisely communicate across shifts. Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills along with conflict resolution. Competent in problem solving, planning, and decision making. Mechanical aptitude, familiarity with UG or similar CAD tools. Ability to read and comprehend engineering drawings and specifications.
