**Employment Type:** Part time **Shift:** Day Shift **Description:** **Position Summary** : In accordance with the St. Peter's Health Partners Mission and Values, develops, implements and evaluates a comprehensive program of lactation services across the SPHP Continuum of Women's and Children's Services. Required by NYCRR 10; 405.8, this regulation stipulates that one person in the organization, "thoroughly trained in breastfeeding physiology and management be responsible for ensuring the implementation of an effective breastfeeding program." This is achieved through demonstration of advanced clinical skills, knowledge of standards of breastfeeding, clinical and educational consultations, program development and the incorporation of lactation research into nursing practice. The Lactation Specialist is accountable to the Newborn Services Manager and works collaboratively with other SPHP staff who provide services to childbearing women. **Education Requirements** : Current registration as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State; Associates Degree required in a Health related field; Bachelors degree in a Health related field preferred. Master's Degree preferred in nursing with concentration in area of parent/child nursing; CLC (certified lactation counselor certification) **OR** certified breastfeeding counselor (CBC) certification is required. International Board of Lactation Consultants (IBCLC) is expected to be obtained within two years of employment by full time lactation specialists. **Experience Requirements** : Two or more years of experience in clinical or community service setting, one of which must have been in the area of maternal-child care. Previous lactation counseling/consulting experience highly desirable.
