Contract 4 months +/-1
Required: experienced as such, all valid Certificates, good references/recommendations, + bonus if fully IGF certified.
Position Summary
1. Execution of safe and efficient performance of Main and Auxiliary engines.
2. To lead safe operations of machinery and equipment, monitoring engine control systems in the engine room.
3. Execution of repair and maintenance work in areas carried out inside and outside of the Engine Room. Responsible for effectively and efficiently overseeing maintenance in accordance with Company Policies and compliance with Public Health or any other prescribed regulations.
4. Ensures proper coordination with different technical parties and departments.
Reporting Structure
1. Reporting to the Staff Engineer and on duty Engineer.
Responsibilities
1. Assists the OOW by monitoring the safe and proper operation of the main and auxiliary engines, machinery and equipment within the Engine Room.
2. Executes maintenance, operation and repairs in the Engine Room as instructed by supervisors.
3. Leads the engine crew on duty in proper maintenance and repair procedures.
4. Assists in keeping log of all watch operations and conditions.
5. Must be familiar with the duties of the 2nd Engineer and display the ability to be able to temporarily relieve duty Engineer on watch should the need arise.
6. Ensures that the Engine Room is operated in accordance with all applicable regulations and Company policies, during all prevailing circumstances and conditions.
7. Operates diesel generators, emergency diesel generator, emergency fire pump, purifiers and air compressors.
8. Assists with the care and maintenance of the firefighting equipment, safety equipment, fire doors and watertight doors in the Engine Room.
9. Responsible to be familiar with the operation and location of all lifesaving, fire-fighting and pollution prevention equipment.
10. Assists with the technical maintenance and repairs inside and outside the Engine Room (to include but not limited to the following):
a. Main propulsion machinery and associated machinery and equipment.
b. Diesel generators and associated machinery and equipment.
c. Black and Grey water system.
d. Boilers and steam plant.
e. Oily water separator.
f. Separators.
g. Compressors.
h. Evaporators.
i. Deck machinery.
j. Garbage management equipment.
k. Life Boats and Tender Engines and propulsion system.
l. Chlorine dosing equipment for fresh water and potable water system.
m. Emergency D/Generator maintenance and test.
n. Dead Ship Recovery Generator (CLIA) maintenance and test.
o. Water Tight Doors and Semi-Watertight Doors hydraulic system.
p. Fire sliding door pneumatic system.
q. Fire Extinguishing Water pipeline and valves.
r. Incinerator and garbage equipment system.
s. Swimming pool and Jacuzzi machinery.
t. Mechanical hotel equipment and services, plumbing etc.
u. Air conditioning.
v. Thrusters.
w. Stabilisers.
x. Emergency diesel engines and related equipment.
y. Steering and rudder machinery, whistles and bilge cleanliness.
z. Fresh/sea water and potable water distribution services.
11. Keeps the Chief Engineer, Staff Engineer and duty Engineer promptly and fully informed of all problems, matters of significance and any issues that may compromise the ships safety and any deficiencies found in the machinery or equipment.
12. Accountable for ensuring that Company, Public Health, National and International standards are maintained and meeting requirements. Reporting to the Chief Engineer any instances where the ship is unable or fails to comply.
13. Executes strict practices to ensure that the engine room is operated in accordance with the following regulations and Company policies, during all prevailing circumstances and conditions:
a. International Safety Management Code.
b. ISPS Code.
c. SOLAS.
d. Code of Safe Working Practices.
e. MARPOL.
f. Pollution prevention.
g. STCW.
h. Oil Record Book.
i. ILO/IMO/ITF/MLC 2006.
j. Ballast Water Management.
k. US CDC Vessel Sanitation Program.
l. Merchant Shipping Legislation of the Bahamas.
14. Accurate completion of log books and other assigned documentation.
15. Observes and enforces uniform and grooming standards according to Company policies.
16. Practices good people management, maintaining proper conduct within the Engine department and other departments around the ship.
17. All other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Safety Duties:
1. Participates in crew safety drills according to instructions.
2. Must always comply with the Company’s safety and pollution prevention regulations and operating procedures.
3. Leads by example by taking care of Health and Safety of self and others.
4. Ensures that all work equipment, personal protective equipment, chemicals and safety devices are being used correctly.
Education/Experience/Qualifications:
1. Valid STCW95 certification.
2. Valid CoC A-III/1.
3. Appropriate certification as required by regulations.
4. Experience on board passenger ships in a similar role and preferable experience with Wartsila engines.
5. Physically and medically fit.
6. Moral integrity is required.
7. Public Health, Sanitation and Environmental training courses are appreciated.
8. Proficient in reading and understanding technical drawings and manuals.
9. Alaska experience is a plus.
10. It is recommended to have Public Health, Coast Guard and Port State Control experience.
Language requirements:
1. Excellent fluent English (verbal, written and technical). English is the working and safety language on board Silversea vessels. This also includes the ability to give and receive instructions in verbal and written forms and to effectively and efficiently engage with guests and crew members. Additional languages are considered beneficial.
Computer knowledge:
1. Good working knowledge of AMOS and Microsoft applications.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
Required to stand, walk long distances, reaching and sitting. Repetitive motion of bending, going up and down stairs, climbing ladders. Lifting or pushing of up to 50lbs. The position requires overtime work and irregular schedules. Works in the Engine Control Room, Engine spaces with noise, light traffic, distracting environments.
