3rd Shift Maintenance Supervisor

Basic Qualifications

For this position to be successful, the incumbent should have:

A High School Diploma or GED equivalent from an accredited institution.  Minimum 3 years of maintenance supervisory experience within a heavy manufacturing environment or a minimum of 1 year of supervisory experience in the Military. Minimum 1 year of experience in a unionized work environment.  This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), which requires U.S. person status. ITAR defines U.S. person as an U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. ‘Green Card Holder’), Political Asylee, or Refugee. 

Preferred Qualifications

For this position to be successful, preference is given to candidates with: 

A technical college degree, journeyman status, or a military equivalent.  Experience with Allen Bradley programable logic controllers.  Working knowledge of motor control centers and distribution control systems.  Strong written and verbal communication skills.  Demonstrated ability to work in and lead a multi-dimensional team.  Troubleshooting experience on hydraulic and pneumatic systems.  A strong electrical and/or hydraulics background.  

Working Conditions

This position involves moderate exposure to risk of accident and requires following basic safety precautions. Work is normally performed on the shop floor. While not exposed to hazardous materials, this position requires wearing full PPE to protect from mobile equipment, hot materials, and noise when on the shop floor. 

This position requires moderate physical activity, such as walking, sitting, and standing for extended periods of time, as well as some lifting.  

This position also requires a willingness to maintain a flexible work schedule and be available 24/7.

Primary Purpose of Job

Under the direction of the Maintenance Area Lead, this position is responsible for training, coaching, and motivating hourly crafts personnel to provide reliable equipment consistent with customer quality and delivery requirements. Direct reports include a group of hourly personnel assigned to their area and shift. The incumbent communicates continually with the Engineering and EHS Departments, as well as with Control Technicians and Maintenance Leads. Externally, they communicate with vendors and contractors. 

Accountability Objectives

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Coaching, supervising, and training skilled craftspeople, apprentices, and laborers in the repair and maintenance activities associated with their assigned shift and area.  Assuming single point accountability for maintenance activities during their respective shift.  Performing frontline troubleshooting activities on equipment in area of responsibility. Directing safety awareness programs to manage workforce safety, maintain housekeeping, and assist the Operations Department in area safety analysis.  Coordinating PM and other outage activities for equipment in area of responsibility.  Planning daily activities for assigned maintenance crews and provide the tools, materials, and technical direction for normal maintenance, preventative maintenance, and capital work in area of responsibility.  Performing root cause analysis and “5-why” techniques to eliminate maintenance downtime.  Partnering with the Engineering Department on repetitive maintenance problems to continuously improve the reliability of responsible equipment and facilities.  Coordinating and managing the development of maintenance work procedures and standard practices to maximize quality work and eliminate waste.  Driving continuous improvement activities to eliminate all waste, especially as it relates to maintenance downtime, safety, work practices, and employee involvement.  Assisting other Maintenance Supervisors, as needed.  Managing applicable labor issues effectively within respective work area. Performing administrative requirements to effectively manage work force.  Performing other duties as assigned.
