4-H Educator - Canton, NY
This position will serve as a 4-H Educator for Cornell Cooperative Extension Association of St. Lawrence County. Responsibilities include direct programming implementation and coordination of existing Youth and Family Development programming utilizing already-established curriculum, activities, and resources. Under the oversight of the 4-H Youth and Family Team Leader, this position will plan, implement, and communicate programming for a menu of programs for youth in a variety of venues including 4-H Club programming, Farm Day Camp, Ag Awareness, School Enrichment Programs, After-School and Summer Camp programs, public events, and special interest and community group programs in assigned subject matter areas. This position will be responsible for the delivery of established programming and activities, both on-site and off-site in accordance with the Youth and Family Development Program Area’s Plan of Work. This position will also coordinate all assigned administrative aspects of Youth and Family Development Program initiatives and will assist the Youth and Family Development Team Leader with marketing and fundraising efforts for all Youth and Family Development programming as appropriate.

This position will also serve as the Ag in the Classroom Dairy Educator for Cornell Cooperative Extension Association of St. Lawrence County and will assist in program communication, implementation, and coordination of Agriculture and Dairy Promotion programs. Under the oversight of the Team Leader, this position will plan, implement, and communicate programming for a menu of Agriculture Education programs and program activities. This position requires a strong skillset in communication and will utilize a variety of educational delivery methods, both on-site and off-site to include, but not limited to direct teaching, group experiences, media, newsletters, electronic technology, internet, virtual learning, workshops, contests and forums. The Educator will communicate relevant and rigorous Agriculture and Dairy content to students while incorporating educational resources which are adaptable for in-person instruction, virtual learning, and the new hybrid model of education.

POSITION DETAILS:

This position is a full-time, non-exempt position, 40 hours per week. The hourly rate for this position is $20.00 to $21.00 commensurate with experience. This position, based on eligibility, offers a comprehensive benefit package, to include: health and dental insurance, NYS retirement, vacation, sick and personal leave.

Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

Program Responsibilities:

Program Delivery, Evaluation and Applied Research - 80%

Utilize established program resources and materials in providing information and resources to program participants in established 4-H and dairy programming.Teach existing Youth and Family Development programming, to include, but not limited to: North Wind Farm Day Camp and Afterschool Programs, Ag Awareness Programs, Special Interest Programs, and 4-H Club Programs and their Management.Apply established subject matter knowledge to create lesson plans necessary to deliver educational programming.Serve as a team member and cooperate with the entire Association and Youth and Family Program staff to achieve Association program delivery goals.Provide educational program efforts via mass media.Implement and facilitate Dairy programming and activities.Provide experiences to connect Dairy to students throughout the region.Based on pre-determined program framework, establish ongoing communications with agricultural producers including in-person farm visits, in-person meetings, electronic means, and social media.Using existing program materials, familiarize agricultural producers and other stakeholders with educational programs and services of Cornell Cooperative Extension of St. Lawrence County and other area agencies.Utilize a variety of educational methods which may include direct teaching, group experiences, media, newsletters, electronic technology, internet, distance learning, workshops, contests, and forums to promote and deliver program.Deliver educational programs as a part of multi-association efforts when identified/appropriate.Implement program evaluation as designed.Interact with program participants to obtain evaluation data, to include: evaluating effectiveness of activities within program area.Based on program parameters, interpret evaluation data and assist in the analysis of that data.Communicate evaluation results and findings to constituencies.Assist Youth and Family Team Leader in the process of analyzing program data, and based on that analysis, assist in making recommendations for improvements in program offerings.Assist in the design/re-design or creation of the program evaluation framework.

Administrative Responsibilities:

Direction and Management - 10%

Assist in the planning and delivery of established Dairy program goals.Provide input in planning the structure of delivering educational programs via various delivery methods.Provide Team Leader with program related information to assist the budget development process.Provide input in planning the structure of delivering educational programs via various methods including, but not limited to the following programs: County Fair, State Fair, Animal and Activity Nights, and Maple Tours.Solve problems and resolve conflicts that arise in the Dairy and 4-H program, utilizing established policies and procedures.Provide guidance, as needed, to volunteers in accordance with established policies, procedures and best practices.Assist Team Leader in identifying and recommending program needs (i.e. program supplies and materials).Recruit volunteer leaders to conduct events and activities in compliance with established Cornell Cooperative Extension volunteer policies and procedures, and to support the Youth and Family Development’s Plan of Work.Assist the Youth and Family Development Team Leader with assigned supervisory responsibilities of 4-H Club leaders and volunteers.

Coordination/Operation - 5%

Assist in the coordination of effective marketing strategies in the promotion of programming efforts to include, but not limited to: print media, news media, social media, and multi-media efforts.Assist in organizing and coordinating all program activities related to Dairy and 4-H programming.Compile existing resources into educational program materials.Collect evaluation data from program participants based on existing evaluation framework and guidelines.Provide information as requested to assist with preparation of reports, impact statements, and success stories on program progress and accomplishments for funders, advisory committees, Board and others as necessary.Maintain a participant database for monitoring EEO/EPO compliance, for marketing organizational programs and initiatives, and for organizational reporting.Under the guidance of Team Leader, network with various organizations to optimize teamwork through organizations, such as Farm Bureau, Chamber of Commerce, county and town boards, farmers’ markets, and community groups.Collaborate with staff from other Cornell Cooperative Associations, regional teams and with agencies and organizations.Effectively maintain professional relationships with other agencies, organizations and businesses that promote effective communication and facilitate continued programming efforts. Prepare and complete necessary registration materials, 4-H program calendar, Department of Health applications, database management and reporting.Train volunteer leaders to conduct events and activities in compliance with established Cornell Cooperative Extension volunteer policies and procedures, and to support the Youth and Family Development’s Plan of Work.This position may require the transport of program participants and/or program materials and resources in performing position responsibilities.

Professional Improvement and Other Duties as Assigned - 5%

In cooperation with Supervisor and/or Executive Director, jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan as a means to increase competencies relative to position accountabilities and to address changes and Association priorities.Collaborate in activities that are in general support of Cornell Cooperative Extension including but not limited to attendance at staff meetings, timely reporting of expenses, working with other staff, general marketing of Extension programs and other duties as assigned.Participate in required training to meet SACC (School Age Childcare) licensing regulations.
