Cornell Cooperative Extension
The 4-H Program Educator serves as a member of the 4-H Youth Development team to deliver educational youth programming and assists the 4-H Supervisor with the planning, reporting, and evaluation of Chenango County 4-H Youth Development programs. This position interacts with the public through the delivery of approved New York State 4-H educational programs and activities locally, regionally, and statewide. Subject areas assigned include STEM, Agriculture and Food Systems, Healthy Living, and Civic Engagement, strongly emphasizing hands-on activities and positive youth development.
Required Qualifications:
+ Bachelor’s degree or Associate’s degree plus two years of transferrable program/functional experience.
+ Experience relevant to the role of the position
+ Demonstrated ability to relate to diverse audiences
+ Demonstrated ability to plan, teach, and evaluate informal educational programs through a variety of delivery methods to reach individuals and groups,
+ Ability to communicate effectively through oral, written, and visual means.
+ Demonstrated ability to work with volunteers and staff as a team member.
+ Ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position.
+ Ability to work flexible hours which may include evenings and/or weekends, as appropriate.
+ Proficiency with windows-based software including use of the internet and Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, and Excel.
+ Ability to work in a typical office environment which may include lifting, moving, and/or transporting office supplies, work related materials, and equipment with or without accommodation. Preferred Qualifications:
+ 4-H or other related youth development experience.
+ Outdoor Adventure and natural resource education experience.
+ Experience teaching STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics) programming.
+ Demonstrated ability to use computer technologies for educational and communication purposes.
+ Knowledge and experience in a non-formal education system such as Cooperative Extension.
Position Responsibilities and Essential Functions
Program Delivery – 70%
+ Utilize established program materials and resources in program work.
+ Implement existing 4-H programming to include, but not limited to: After-school programs, Agriculture in the Classroom, STEM, Outdoor Adventure Education, shooting sports, Chenango County Fair, community events, and other regional/state 4-H events.
+ Teach existing educational programs as defined utilizing a variety of proven educational methodologies.
+ Work to foster acceptance of 4-H Program methods and policies while addressing community and individual needs and considering diverse audiences.
+ Apply existing subject matter knowledge to create lesson plans to deliver educational programs.
+ Serve as a subject matter resource in discipline to staff and participants, community organizations, and the general public.
+ Represent CCE before the public, community leaders, government officials, Cornell, or other land grant universities as part of program delivery.
+ May be involved in multi-disciplinary efforts within the Association or regionally to deliver programming.
+ May assist in ensuring that program delivery is within the scope of the statewide Plan of Work.
Program Evaluation – 10%
+ Implement program evaluation as designed.
+ Interact with program participants to obtain their evaluation of programs.
+ Assist supervisor in the process of analyzing program data, and based on that analysis, assist in making recommendations for improvements in program offerings.
+ Communicate evaluation findings to constituents as appropriate.
Administrative Direction – 5%
+ Assist in the planning of major 4-H programs and events.
+ Provide input in planning the structure of delivering educational programs via various methods.
+ Provide input to planning unit budget based on program feasibility needs and assist in identifying opportunities for 4-H fund development activities.
+ Assist the supervisor in initiating effective professional relationships with other agencies, organizations, and businesses that promote effective communication to facilitate continued programming efforts.
Administrative Management – 5%
+ Solve problems and resolve conflicts that arise within the 4-H Youth Development Program utilizing appropriate policies and procedures.
+ Assist supervisor with volunteer management.
+ Implement the existing volunteer enrollment and selection process.
Administrative Coordination/Operation – 5%
+ Organize and coordinate activities related to 4-H Club and afterschool programming.
+ Coordinate, compile, and organize existing program resources and program materials
+ Assist in utilizing effective marketing strategies in the promotion of programming efforts.
+ Interact effectively with program participants and volunteers to provide programming and support.
+ Maintain effective professional relationships with other agencies, organizations, and businesses that promote effective communication to facilitate continued programming efforts.
+ Provide moderately complex administrative tasks to support the delivery of established educational program goals.
+ Provide information as requested to assist with preparation of reports, impact statements, and success stories on program progress and accomplishments for funders, advisory committees, the Board, and others as necessary.
Professional Improvement – 5%
+ In cooperation with Supervisor and/or Executive Director, jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan as a means to increase competencies relative to position accountabilities and to address changes and Association priorities.
+ Participate in all required orientation, training, and/or in-service meetings and trainings as scheduled/required.
+ Pursue personal growth through expanding personal knowledge of the total organization and through updating techniques and technical skills relating to the position.
+ Collaborate in activities that are in general support of Cornell Cooperative Extension including but not limited to attendance at staff meetings, timely reporting of expenses, working with other staff, general marketing of Cooperative Extension programs and other duties as assigned.
+ Maintain regular and predictable attendance and punctuality.

+ Support the Association to maintain a safe working environment.
+ Be familiar with and strive to follow any applicable federal, state, local regulations, Association health and safety policy/procedure/requirement and standard.

Position Details
This is a full-time (37.5 hrs/week) , benefits eligible, non-exempt position. Compensation paid at $22.25 per hour.
