The 504 Coordinator at UT High School (UTHS) is responsible for overseeing and ensuring compliance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 within a fully online K-12 school environment. This role requires expertise in virtual education accommodations, student accessibility, and remote collaboration with educators, families, and administrators. The coordinator will manage the identification, evaluation, and implementation of 504 plans, ensuring students receive appropriate accommodations to access their online coursework successfully.
ResponsibilitiesEnsure district-wide compliance with Section 504 policies and procedures within the virtual learning environment.
Develop, implement, and maintain UTHS-specific 504 guidelines, focusing on accessibility in asynchronous and synchronous online learning.
Stay up to date on state and federal regulations regarding 504 accommodations, ensuring alignment with UT High School policies.
Provide professional development and training for online instructors, counselors, and staff on 504 virtual accommodations and best practices.
Collaborate with curriculum teams and instructional designers to ensure online learning platforms and course materials are accessible for students with disabilities.
Manage the virtual evaluation process for students who may qualify for 504 accommodations.
Facilitate remote 504 committee meetings via video conferencing to determine eligibility and develop individualized accommodation plans.
Ensure that 504 plans address the unique needs of students in an online learning environment, such as assistive technology, flexible deadlines, captioning, text-to-speech tools, or modified test formats.
Collaborate with families and instructors to monitor and adjust accommodations as needed.
Serve as the primary liaison between UTHS, students, parents, and external agencies regarding 504 services in a virtual setting.
Provide guidance to families on their rights under Section 504 and how accommodations apply to online coursework.
Support virtual instructors in understanding and implementing accommodations in Canvas, Zoom, and other digital platforms.
Assist in resolving disputes or concerns related to 504 plans, acting as a mediator between families and school staff.
Maintain digital records of 504 plans, evaluations, and student accommodations using UT High School’s student information system.
Monitor student progress and accommodation effectiveness, making adjustments as needed to support student success in an online learning model.
Assist in state and federal compliance reporting related to Section 504.
Conduct regular audits and reviews to ensure consistency and effectiveness of virtual 504 accommodations.
Required QualificationsBachelor’s degree in education, special education, school counseling, or a related field.
Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred QualificationsMinimum 3-5 years of experience in education, with experience in virtual instruction, special programs, or student support services.
Salary Range$57,000 + depending on qualifications
Working ConditionsHybrid role: Primarily remote with periodic in-person meetings in Austin, TX.
Work is performed using virtual tools and platforms, requiring a reliable internet connection and proficiency in digital communication tools.
May require occasional evening meetings to accommodate family schedules.
Occasional travel for compliance meetings, professional development, or staff training at UT High School’s Austin office.
