Maintenance of firefighting aircraft, including Avro RJ 85 airtankers and next-generation Canadair CL-415 'Super Scooper' amphibious aircraft. During the off-season (roughly October to May), aircraft are fully repaired, refitted, modified/upgraded if necessary, and all maintenance checks are performed to ensure season availability and inspection readiness by the end of March. During the season, mechanics will rotate from HQ to the field, engaging in line/field maintenance at fire bases around the western US, troubleshooting and repairing all aircraft systems, including avionics. Hourly pay increases during deployments, and maintenance work at the home base follows a steady Monday to Friday day schedule.
