ABH Mental Health Assistant
Performs basic, routine duties related directly and indirectly to clinical care of patients. Principal Accountabilities: 1. Communicates with insurance and managed care companies to obtain authorizations for treatment. 2. Conducts utilization review for patients in treatment as needed. 3. Reviews charts, communicates with clinical team, and with patients to obtain information for authorizations and utilization review. 4. Conducts psychoeducation and activity group therapy sessions as assigned. 5. Assist clinicians with care coordination tasks such as calling, emailing and/or faxing information to PCP or other providers, with a signed ROI from patient. 6. Discusses patient’s treatment plan, symptoms, and other pertinent information with patient’s care team including outside providers, with a signed ROI from patients. 7. Assists clinicians with sending (email or fax) and managing disability and human resources forms and/or information for patients who are in treatment. 8. Obtains specimens as assigned (e.g., UDS, saliva). 9. Appropriately documents patient contacts, phone calls, group notes, and other patient information in EMR as necessary. 10. Assists with inputting evidenced-based screenings and other intake documents in EMR as assigned. 11. Participates in multi-disciplinary treatment team and general business meetings. 12. Orients patient to program and develops rapport with patients, family and significant others as needed. 13. Completes CSSRS and other safety assessments with patients as needed. 14. Ensures a safe environment for patients and staff. 15. Assists in patient management including de-escalation. 16. Applies principles of infection control and safety in the work environment. 17. Assists patients with mobility concerns in using handi-lift, stairs, while entering and existing building and or patient care areas. 18. Assists in keeping patient care and non-patient care areas clean (e.g., wipes tables, neatens storage rooms, pantries and other areas). 19. Safely and effectively utilizes the hospital computer system in accordance with hospital policy. 20. Participates in orientation of mental health assistants. 21. Completes other responsibilities as assigned QUALIFICATIONS: 1. High School diploma/GED Required 2. Bachelor’s degree preferred 3. Previous experience in a behavioral health setting preferred 4. Previous direct patient care experience preferred. COMPETENCIES: 1. Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision. 2. Excellent communications skills 3. Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite including Word and Excel, and Microsoft Teams. 4. Ability to read and interpret documents. 5. Ability to speak effectively. 6. Ability to work independently.
